If it is to be, it is up to me.

I am a wife, mother, grandmother, and retired teacher. At a hair over 5 feet tall, I am overweight. I have participated in Spark People for 7 years, but my weight loss has been negligible. I won't give up though. At 64, it's important for me to realize that I simply can't eat everything I want to. I am very lucky to have a husband who is the cook, and he pushes me to exercise (I'd rather read a book). However, one of my great loves is Tai Chi, in which I've earned a black belt after 10 years of ...

My Goals:
1. To think positively about my ability to lose weight.
2. To think positively about my ability to exercise consistently.
3. To make healthy eating a lifestyle change.
4. To make daily exercise a priority.
5. To strive for balance between body and mind.
6. To be happy.
7. To help others.

My Program:
I will not lose weight quickly like I did in my 30s so I need to continue to motivate myself. Some positive things I do include always eating breakfast, reading labels for calorie and fat content, using whole foods as opposed to prepared or packaged ones in my meals, and staying hydrated. A fun reward for me is a glass of wine in the evening. I am mindful of my carb cravings and my emotional eating in the evenings.

Personal Information:
I am from Harrisburg, PA. My husband and I are both retired teachers - lucky to be healthy. I have two married children and three beautiful granddaughters.

Other Information:
Since retiring, I have time to do many things and feel less stress. I like to play with the grandchildren, read, and do tai chi. I have more trouble doing vigorous exercise. I feel like I should have lost weight since I'm including more exercise in my day but I haven't broken the habit of eating too much. My worst habit is giving in to eating snacks after dinner.

Success is a Choice
-Unknown
"Today I will make many choices, and each will have a consequence. Today I can choose to tell myself that I am worth the effort, or I can tell myself doesn't matter, I'll do it tomorrow. Today I can choose to journal, or I can choose not to. Today I can choose to drink my water, or I can choose to be
dehydrated. Today I can choose to stay in my points range, or I can choose to hinder my goals. Today I can choose to be more active, or I can choose to take the easy way. Today I can choose to be motivated, or I can choose to tell myself "I can't." Today I can choose success. IT IS MY CHOICE."

"Sometimes victory seems so far away because we measure it only by the goal. And end goals can seem overwhelmingly huge, daunting, and just plain hard to reach. But if we start measuring our victories by the smaller choices we make each day, victory won't seem so impossible.....
It's amazing the chain reaction that can start in your life with just one good choice.
Big things are built one brick at a time.
Victories are achieved one choice at a time.
A life well lived is chosen one day at a time.
Oh sweet friend, you are closer than you think to victory!"

Be your own hero, one choice and one step at a time! You might not see visible signs of progress right away, but as long as you keep doing your best, you will make progress and you will be victorious! I'm rooting for you! Remember, you're worth your best effort!
Hugs,
Pixie
