My name is Laura -- wife and mother of one. I've always been a 'big' girl, I'm 6' tall and built very sturdy which makes losing weight feel like it takes forever. From 2004 to 2006 I had lost nearly 50 pounds and barely went down one pant size. It's not what I feel as major success but I've come to realize, it's not about what size your pants are but how you feel about yourself and the quality of your life and health!

My hopes are to get back down to -my- healthy weight and to pass a healthy lifestyle to my daughter so she won't have to face a life of constantly being labled as 'obese.' (even though one doesn't look it)

My main problem is my view of food. I will eat when I'm bored and when it comes to meals, I eat more than I should with the 'wolf pack' mentality -- eat as much as you can as fast as you can because it's going to be gone otherwise. I was able to break the thought process when I lived on campus in college. There was plenty of food and I didn't have to 'contend' with anyone.

However, when I moved in with my now husband's family, it came back because they would take a lot of food... then eat what they wanted, then threw the rest away! So back I went to 'eat it all because you won't see it again.'

Now that my husband and I are living on our own, we're working on breaking that habit again.

My second downfall is exercise. I have a tendency to get embarrassed to exercise. I hate feeling like people are judging me or thinking rude comments about me. So when I start exercising, if people are watching, I can't help but think they're mentally marking off how much I weigh or how awkward and stupid I look doing what I'm doing. Curves helped so much when I was able to go, but now the nearest Curves isn't a 2.5 block walk away like it used to back at my parent's house, it's a 15 minute drive in a car I don't have and costs money I can't come up with and having someone to watch Raielynne which I'm unable to find. I love to walk and I'm trying to find someone to walk with. I can do Pilates but so far I haven't been able to complete an uninterrupted session with my 6 month old.

My prayers for the future is to apply to (and get) a job with Fitness 19 for babysitting that's located around the corner from me. I could kill 3 birds with 1 stone. I could bring in extra money, get a free membership, and be able to watch my own daughter!

My Goals:
I was 8 pounds away from my goal of 200 pounds before I moved. Gained a few pounds and evened out before I got pregnant. I only gained 32 pounds and nearly lost it all in 6 weeks until my doctor put me on birth control. I gained back 25 pounds and can't seem to lose it. My goal is still 200 pounds even though it's in the 'overweight' section, but for my body build, any less and I'd be a skeleton.


My Program:
Pilates, walking, eating to live -- not living to eat.



Personal Information:
I'm 27, happily married, a stay at home mom, and mother of 1. I love doing arts of many forms -- drawing, painting, sewing, photography, photo manipulation/photo enhancement, etc. However, finding the time to do art has taken a back seat to raising my darling daughter.


Other Information:
I love to write and draw. I hold a BS degree in Film and Video Productions. I used to work for a CBS station as the head news video editor but gave it up for now to be a stay at home mom. I'm welcome to return when I'm ready.

    Hey Laura. The pictures of your little girl are so beautiful! She is going to break a lot of hearts with those pretty eyes! Sounds like our goals and challenges are a lot alike. I am also 6 feet tall, and have never been small by any means, but I currently have about 90 lbs to lose to get to my goal weight of about 180. My little girl is 16 months old, and I too want to be a healthier role model for her than I ever had for myself. I also share your affinity for food and difficulty with exercising. Congrats to us both for taking the steps we have toward reaching our goals, and give me a yell if you need any support from this big ole Amazon.

    Laura: Saw you on Boise Sparks. Welcome. I don't know which area of town you live in, but maybe we could walk together? I'm in SW Boise, Victory and Five Mile area. We have been have a once a month Spark Walk on the Greenbelt (had one March, April & May) and not too many people came. I'll set a date for June one and post it, so maybe you can come to that. Hope you're doing good and had a nice weekend. If we're pretty close in town, let's see if we can walk. You might not like walking with me since I am a slow walker and with your height you probably walk lots faster than me (I'm 5'1")..........anyway, I'll post a walk in June for Boise Sparks.
