Yay for co-leading! It IS a different feeling altogether. I would be extremely nervous every single time i lead with Amanda, or when she would step back for me to lead. But girl, you NEED to get up to the front row! It helps soooo much! Then when you do transition to the lead position, it doesn't feel nearly as awkward.
For me, even NOW, when i'm doing a new song in the combo class I teach with Amanda, I get nervous. Even though we're close friends now, I will still always view her as the zumba authority, and feel like a fool when I mess up in front of her. So even if you ALWAYS feel nervous with Mickey, that doesn't mean you will when you are on your own. Ha, I'll be nervous having YOU in class! It doesn't take much to rattle me, but over the past year I've made about every mistake possible, so now I just laugh at myself and keep moving.
Yup! The 26th would be great! I have a free pass I got from the OSF Heritage run I can leave at the front desk for you. Gosh, June 2 is seriously right around the corner! Have you talked to Mickey about subbing for her at all? I know she scrambled last weekend to get a sub (while she was off posing for pics with William Baldwin for crying out loud!) and instructors like when a student of theirs can sub too, cuz then other students aren't thrown for a loop with an entire HOUR of new stuff. Course if you're having to work more Saturdays that might not even be an option. Hopefully that doesn't last too long, though without hiring people I guess how do you avoid it?
Just an FYI too, we had a meeting at Z Sanctuary and starting VERY SOON we are going to designate one class/week ( I think the Thursday 7-8 pm class) as "Mentoring night." We have 2 classes/night there that we ALWAYS have 2 instructors teach, for a variety of reasons I won't go into, but mostly because we want to be able to SEE each other! Anyway, Thursday night we will have a regular Z Sanctuary instructor, but will also open the doors for new instructors to get some teaching time, experience, some money etc. until they get a class of their own. No commitment, and if 5 new instructors are interested, we'll rotate one/week for 5 weeks. Does that make sense? I'm sooooo tired today!
We are incredibly low pressure there, and have a crowd of anywhere from 4-15 students on Thursdays. The new instructors can do 1 song, half an hour, the whole hour, whatever! Basically Amanda has brought all the rest of us into the zumba fold, and we want to continue spreading the zumba love.
Hi there :) Yep it looks like we are on the same track :) Yeah 4 months here, but it took me a long time to finally be 100% committed to this. I kind of don't have a choice since I have a thyroid problem and high cholesterol.
Weekends are rough! I think they are for everyone. I find that it helps that I stay busy. I like to go on walks with my son to the park or take him some where fun. I also make sure I'm not surrounded by food lol.
The best class for you to come to would be my Saturday Y class at 10:30. I teach that one alone, and have been doing that one for a year now. It has DEFINITELY been a growing process. I don't know if you know Suzy, but she used to teach with Mickey, and I took the class over from her last May. If you knew you could make it, I could get you in on a guest pass.
Otherwise, I do teach at 5:30 a.m. at the church on the corner of Spring Creek and Alpine. That schedule varies as Amanda's schedule is insane; for example, I'm on ALL this week (M/W/F) even though typically we alternate.
Then there's the combo class at the church Sat mornings from 8:30-10. Amanda and I co-teach, and while it's a great class IMO, I don't feel 100% just on account of being in Amanda's shadow (imagine co-teaching with Mickey.....you can't OUTDO her, so it's easier to kind of take the quieter route). I also do Wednesdays at the Y, but it's also co-taught, so same thing. I definitely feel more "on my game" when I'm alone.
