I needed to change my exercise plan[again] since things got stagnant, I was stuck in the same numbers for too long. When I took up Zumba months back, it was so much fun that I let it get it in the way of my strength training. So now I'm back to that, trying hard to do it 2 times a week sometimes changing out some of the exercises I had been doing for others. It worked to get me out of the slump, and I'm seeing the pounds drop away a little at a time.
Since April 2011, I have been exercising and tracking my food on SparkPeople.com. I love this website and rely on it heavily for everything health related. I feel MUCH better, and lighter, more fit and strong, less spongy and fatty. Exercising makes me want to... exercise even more, i love it! Zumba and my fitness instructor have changed things around for me, my life is the only thing that gets in the way of that! Oh, and I'm down 22 pounds. (!) They've come off very gradually and sometimes even creep back on, but I do not let that deter me, bc what feels good, ultimately, is not sitting around and eating whatever you want to eat, it's eating with a purpose and moving your body, pushing your body - and having a great time while you're at it.
I am many things, but most of all, I am a mother to eight wonderful children who have given me so many careers - life coach, psychologist, cook, personal shopper, activity coordinator, chauffeur and personal valet, art teacher, nurse, wrestler. It's an incredible job that I am privileged to have, and we have a great time together. It is not the first time that I try to trim down, but this time, I feel that the tools I have at my fingertips are just what I need to get the job done. And I'm going for it!
[update 6-28-2011] I've been using Sparkpeople for about three months now. The first 6 weeks or so, tracking and exercising and the scale went NOWHERE. I did a lot of reading and learning, making sure to do all the right things, and I was and I knew it, but my bathroom scale didn't care, it had no pity on me. Day after day and week after the week, the same number greeted me. Dropping off the bandwagon was not an option, I was psyched to succeed. I believed that I too can be fit and trim - just look at ALL the people who have done it in the thousands of Sparkpages on this website! Thousands and thousands of people have lost literally tons of weight, so could I really be the exception, the one in a million for whom the weight won't come off? NO WAY. Then I read in one of Dean Anderson's articles how it could take up to 4-6 weeks before the weight starts to come off, something about glycogen, etc.
Sure enough, at exactly the six week mark, I began seeing a change and pound by little pound, the numbers on the scale are dropping. So far, 14 are gone, as well as inches off my waist. And with that , I've reached my first mini-goal. Do I feel deprived? No, I feel like I'm making a choice.

The goal is to look in the mirror and see a slimmer person, to see myself as I FEEL.
- I track my calories and eat according to what protein/fat/calories/carbs I have left.
- Following Tom Venuto's workouts - weight training 30 minutes 3 x/week
- Drinking 8 glasses of water a day (more like 6 on a good day)
- my cardio is Zumba (love it) and Tae-bo - some edition from the 80s where Mr. Blanks is wearing a Superman blue spandex suit - I just picked up a newer version from Costco for 7.99 but it's an hour long!!

Thanks for stopping by my page and commenting on my photo. I'm a ways away from my goal, but I do feel a lot better than I did when I first started this journey. Keep tracking your fitness and nutrition. I have found this helps keep me accountable. When I started, my goal was to get 10 minutes of exercise in per day. This has worked up to a minimum of 30 minutes, but only if I am short on time. My usual workout is 60 minutes or so. Good luck on your journey!
