Well here I am, another year has passed. I have been back on SP for 2 weeks now and things are going well.

Previous, Previous Update
I am updating my page per instructions from SparkCoach. I started my latest journey with SP on February 4, 2013. Although I have been losing SLOWLY, still I have lost 13 pounds. I am not in this as a race, I have learned to be content with eating better and exercising and feeling healthier. With that said, I do want to lose the last 12 pounds, so I continue......

PREVIOUS UPDATE
It is time to update my introduction! I first joined SP in January, 2009, but did not really get into it until July of 2009. I lost 23 pounds by the end of October that year. Unfortunately, I put my back out by raking leaves without pacing myself. (I guess 2 straight days of raking for 4-5 hours is not really good for you) Since that time 3 years ago I have managed to put back on the 20 pounds. My husband and I are retired and have been on several vacations. We love it, but I have managed to lose my motivation and have been making poor nutrition choices. I decided to do the South Beach diet because I know I can lose weight on this dies, and I know that I feel better avoiding the bad carbs. Today is February 4, 2013, the beginning of a new commitment for me.

My Goals:
Very simply: I want to feel comfortable in my body.


My Program:
I am tracking my food and staying between 1200-1350 calories a day.
I am going to aerobics and strength class 3 days a week. In June I got the Spark People Activity Tracker and I am now in the 10,000 steps a day club, so a 3-4 mile walk is a daily activity for me.



Personal Information:
My husband and I are semi-retired, (we keep busy and work flexible part time jobs). We love the Patriots and traveling. We enjoy being on the beach, or hiking in the mountains. We have 5 children and 6 grandchildren. We feel blessed to have such a good life and such a wonderful family.

    Hi Cate ! For me to attempt 10,000 steps @ home, I just put on some music and start stepping in place or marching in place or jogging in place. I get my kids involved , we get silly and dance around. If I'm watching t.v., I get up and walk during the program and during the commercials. Wishing you all the best.

    HI Cate, thanks for the visit to my Beck Blog. You might want to check out the book, The Beck Diet Solution (Dr. Judith Beck PhD) and the Spark Team of that name. The book applies the principles of Cognitive Behavior Therapy to dieting.

    The first thinking mistake most people make and I was one of those is to launch right into a diet without having any skills to support the diet itself! There are many many sabotaging thoughts many people have and messages we tell ourselves. ("I really have to eat that pint of ice cream". Or, "it would be a shame to throw out that piece of chocolate cake" and waste food. Or "That particular food is healthy so I can't overeat it". Lots more.)

    The book is available in many public libraries. Periodically the "Beck team" does a group Trek or a reboot where we read and practice and blog about a chapter a day.

    Combined with Spark tools and a sustainable eating plan I lost 27 pounds since June, reached my original goal and am continuing to lose because I want to have a healthier waist size.

    I recommend this book along with Spark tools.
