Walk it Off

Okay - it is one year today (Dec 30) that I joined SP. What can I say - it's been quite a year. I set a goal to lose 70lbs and I almost made it; I hope to lose the remaining 8.5 lbs by end of January or mid-February.

Just after completing the half marathon in May I was involved in a MVA and that stopped me from exercising (soft tissue injury in mid/low back area). But I still managed to lose weight by taming my sugar demons - that just served to show me how much garbarge I ...

Just after completing the half marathon in May I was involved in a MVA and that stopped me from exercising (soft tissue injury in mid/low back area). But I still managed to lose weight by taming my sugar demons - that just served to show me how much garbarge I was eating bcz I have still lost 30lbs after the MVA in June! I'm sure if I had been able to exercise (still waiting for R-of-M to inprove and Dr. to give green light) that the fat to muscle ratio would have been better, but I can't complain about fitting into size 5/6 now - and able to wear 3-5" heels again!!! Although, I can complain about lose skin. I guess 20 years of yo-yo dieting and major weight swings you can't escape the ugly "bread dough" skin on the tummy, arms and thighs!

I'm going to cross my fingers and hope soon that I can "get back in the game" and start training again for another half marathon in May and August and then compete in my first FULL marathon in Honolulu December 13, 2009 (already have accomodations booked & waiting for registration to open up). I've done a number of halfs and feel ready to make that next leap to the full marathon and I think Hawaii is the ultimate reward location for attempting that. If that is a success (i.e. I make it across the finish line, lol) I can't wait to do Paris in April 2010 & Berlin in Sept 2010. I may even consider doing the Great Wall Marathon in 2013 when we are there for our 20th wedding anniversary...

Well, it's May 23rd and time for an update... I've lost the 25 lbs that I regained after completing the Las Vegas Half Marathon Dec 06. I feel healthier again! I completed the Red Deer Half Marathon May 17th and beat my previous PB time by 20 minutes!

I'm well on my way to lose another 35 lbs in time for the Kelowna Half Marathon on October 12/08 - I can't wait to see what time I achieve!

This time I'm going to do it - and NOT gain it back. I will be doing two 1/2 marathons this year to work my way up to a full marathon in Hawaii in 2009. I MUST lose this 60 lbs, or I won't be able to complete the full marathon within the time limits; nor enjoy the experience.

I'm tired of losing (110 lbs in 1987-88), gaining (125 lbs), losing (80 lbs in 1994-95), gaining (60 lbs), losing (70 lbs in 2000 - 2002), gaining (70 lbs), losing (50 lbs in 2006) and finally gaining 25 back in 2007. Has this controlled my 20's and 30's? Yes, but will not my 40's!!! That's 310 lbs lost and 280 lbs gained over 20 years ... Can anyone say "Yo-Yo"???

I'm going to get a GRIP some how!

I've done just about every program out there... what works? Reduce calories in and increase calories out. Bottom line - Exercise. When I stop walking or other stuff, I gain. Personally, I need both sides of the equation. Maintaining healthy eating alone did not do it for me - I need to MOVE.

I'm really enjoying SP so far (only signed on Dec 30/07) and tracking my food and exercise. There really is no excuse to not know what is going in [mouth] vs. what is falling off [butt]... With this tool I hope to achieve my life-long goal of a healthy body shape and fit into nice clothes, be comfortable again wearing high heels [3" +] and have bounds of energy. So far I've been lucky with a normal BP of 110/70 and low cholesteral and normal blood sugars - but I don't want to tempt fate.

Congrats on your wieght loss! I am so proud of you! I have simular stats and you make this long road I am about to travel much more "travelable". The years seem to go by so fast and I can't wait till this time next year!

Welcome to 40 something maintainers! It IS possible to lose it and never find it after 4o!! The folks on our team are all proof of that. Many have had a similar experience to yours, but we're all determined to maintain what we've worked so hard to achieve. With SP and all the things we've learned here, we WILL do it!! Pauline

Thanks for checking in. It was a great race, and it took me till mile 11 before I started questioning my sanity. I had a race picked out for December. I was going to run the whole thing but since I have a planned C-section that month maybe not. There is a half in February that I think I will go ahead and walk. And then start training to run again after that. When is your next race?

Hi,
Thanks for your encouraging words. Actually, I have lost 41 pounds since Jan. 1 2008!!! (I joined 10 min. till midnight on Dec. 31 but No it wasn't a resolution. I was just looking for diet pill solutions and $$$ websites and found SP).

So here I am! I really don't think I will hit a serious plateau till I reach my goal. When I set it in Jan. I knew 160 has always been my plateau point and 165 is in a normal weight range for me. I remember how discouraged I was "stuck" at 160 for months. Well my plan is in place! Albeit a strange one. Change nothing to what I am doing now which is mini meals, zig zag total calories, walk / jog, & 10,000 iu of D3; and when things seem to slow down...eat 1800 calories for 2 days, add more running, water jogging, and start with free weights and daily go to a tanning bed for 6 days then back on D3, oh and increase my protein.
NOW doesn't that sound like a plan...LOL!

If you are seriously interested in finding out more about D3 let me know. Go to my spark page and click on the mini meal team and look for the D topic. It really works (with diet & exercise of course). Plus it cuts your risk of many cancers and auto immune diseases as well as improves your mood.

I love your SP. Especially the 1/2 M.
