I joined SP in November 2012. I have a Lapband placed in September 2006. The band made such a great difference in my life. I lost 69 lbs after (and about 30 before placement.) I am the oldest patient my surgeon had ever done. Medicare only covers the procedure if it is done in qualifying hospitals (I think they have to qualify by having a large bariatric center. ?) I have to travel 210 miles to Minneapolis for treatment and that means checkups and fills are about every 6 months now.
I have spent last year with left cancerous breast removal, broken arm & hand in cast, pneumonia & etc. Now they say I am "cancer free" and I could have refill in my band! Life is good in 2013! I'm Sparkin' here on the site and using the Nutrition Tracker, really learning the contents of what I'm putting in my mouth!
I use the protein powder in coffee lattes in the a.m. with some fruit, then 1/2 the meal out at our local senior center for lunch and have a supper/dinner of salad, meat, vegetable and small goodie for dessert at home. Only once in awhile do I spit up. (When I overdo in quantity.)
I feel the band saved my life, and added years on my lifeline. I have more great grandchildren to look forward to. . . . .whatever my lord wills ahead for me.

Thanks for your kind words! I'm glad I opted for the VSG in the first place; it seems lots of folks convert from lapband to VSG. I'm so happy with my decision and only wish I'd done it years sooner.
I noticed the other day that you are from Texas, do you mind saying what area? I live in the boondocks between Elgin and Bastrop which is about 30 miles east of Austin. There are several folks in this group from Texas, but so far, none very close to me. Katy hails from the Dallas area, there is one around College Station and I think one out in west Texas somewhere. Can't recall any others right now, but I think there are a few more.
Thank you for your comment on my blog. I am sorry it sounsd like you are having a hard time with your band right now. You may want to just do liquids a day or two and let everything settle down. I have also found that warm liquids help relax my band. 2400 days ago
