I got this.

Hi. My name is Carling. I have been married to the most wonderful man in the world for 12 years. I was married directly out of high school. When my husband and I met when I was 14, I was on a crash diet and weighed 145 lbs. I haven't seen that weight since and was 283 lbs. when we got married 4 years later. No matter what, he is completely supportive. He has loved working out and lifting weights the entire 15 years we have been together, and no matter how fit he is, he has never pressured me. I admire him for that. We adopted three children in 2010, and my life seems almost complete except for this weight. Balancing everything in my life has been difficult at times, but my amazing family is so rewarding that it is all worth it. I started this journey on February 4, 2013, and I celebrated my birthday in August over 90 lbs. lighter! My kids are 18, 16 and 13, and have helped make this easier with their love and support for me and what I want to achieve.

I know everyone seems to say this, but this time it really does feel different and it has been. In the past, I have started these crash diets where I starve myself and lose weight only to have it come back twice as quick as I lost it. I have never lost more than 30-35 lbs at one time either. I feel that I am now making lifestyle changes that I can maintain forever. An Atkins or South Beach diet will never work for me long term. EVER. I love carbs, and now I know that I can still have them and lose weight at a healthy pace and keep it off.

My husband and I love going out to eat and taking the kids to new, fun places, and I've learned I can even do that and continue to lose weight! I've cut out appetizers and desserts, and I now choose the steamed veggies instead of the potato. I still get amazing food (I LOVE SEAFOOD). Instead of the biggest Prime Rib that I would usually order, I leave that to my husband or the kids, have a bite of theirs, and I'm good to go!

My biggest end goal besides sharing clothes with my teenage daughters is to have surgery to remove excess skin (i.e. tuck, lift and add things where they need to go). The excess skin has created a lot of self consciousness on my part, which is crazy considering I wasn't as self conscious with all the fat! Don't get me wrong, I am proud of how far I have come, but I would still love to get surgery soon!

My losing has obviously slowed over the past several months, but I'm still going hard and working out like a crazy woman. I haven't let the number on the scale have the hold over me that it did at the beginning of this journey. I continue to work hard and feel better every day, but I also enjoy life and participate in celebrations by eating things that probably keep the number on the scale the same. That's ok with me though. I have maintained a 117 lb. weight loss for over 2 months and have no doubt that I will continue to lose and have success in this journey!

I look forward to talking to many of you! Although I became a Spark member over 6 years ago, I never used all of the amazing tools that the site and app offer. I never blogged, commented or looked up a video. Now that I am utilizing all of these amazing tools, I feel that nothing can stop me! Good luck all. I will be here along the way and cross the finish line with you!

My Goals:
My ultimate goal is to share clothes with my two teenage daughters!

**UPDATE: They are now borrowing MY clothes. lol!

My Program:
I have completely changed the way I eat and my activity level. I work out (mostly walking/running and ST) 6-7 days a week and I stick to the 80/20 rule of 80% good food and 20% splurge. My "splurge" isn't anywhere close to what I was eating before though. I still do my best to keep portion sizes smaller, but that is something I still continue to struggle with. I am definitely a work in progress, and my program changes with my mood, but as of right now, I have maintained 115-117 lb loss for over 6 months :)

Personal Information:
I'm from a small town in northwest Ohio. A huge Detroit Tiger and Ohio State Buckeye fan, I love all things sports.

I'm back to give it another go on Spark. I thought you might like to know that even though I wasn't active on Spark, I kept trying to get started. I sputtered and stalled a lot, but I always checked your page. You are an amazing motivator, and I love your "real" look at the process. You look fabulous, and I get the sense that you are as beautiful on the inside, as you are on the outside! Congratulations on your success!

First of all, CONGRATS on your amazing weight loss this weekend! NICE!!!

Second, I can't believe your phone got stolen, too! What a crazy thing that must have been for you to get a phone call from the person who bought it! Talk about feeling violated. I was absolutely convinced that that's what was going to happen to my phone too (sold on the black market) but I still have no idea how it all worked out for me in the end. My husband said I should have bought a lottery ticket!

Great idea about "goody" holidays for your kids. I've vowed that I won't buy any more Easter candy until right before the holiday, and I'm only going to get a couple of small things that either I don't like, or I know my son will like (and then I'd feel really guilty about eating them). He's not even 3, so there's no reason for him to have a huge basket of candy anyway. Buying so much for him a few weeks ago, I guess I knew deep down that it would be for me eventually. :/ I've done a lot of soul-searching and reading about sugar addiction this weekend, so I feel really good about going into this week with a fresh perspective and really working hard at getting my sugar under control. I'm SO jealous of your strength to pass on the things your husband eats! But if you can do it, I can do it too - eventually!

Thanks for the encouraging words, Spark Friend! :)

I love the idea of getting one of those bikes to use for my arms and sitting. That would help so much. I have Amazon Prime too so I won't have to pay shipping. Thanks for the idea.
