Hi. My name is Carling. I have been married to the most wonderful man in the world for 13 years. I was married directly out of high school. When my husband and I met when I was 14, I was on a crash diet and weighed 145 lbs. I haven't seen that weight since and was 283 lbs. when we got married 4 years later and gained 21 more over the next decade. No matter what, he is completely supportive. He has loved working out and lifting weights the entire 15 years we have been together, and no matter how fit he is, he has never pressured me. I admire him for that. We adopted three children in 2010, and the stress and issues we deal with due to our kids past creates hurdles that I have to fight so I don't turn to the comfort of food I have used all my life. Balancing everything in my life has been difficult at times, but my focus on my health has kept me on track. I started this journey on February 4, 2013, and I celebrated my birthday in August of that year over 90 lbs. lighter!
I know everyone seems to say this, but this time it really does feel different and it has been. In the past, I have started these crash diets where I starve myself and lose weight only to have it come back twice as quick as I lost it. I have never lost more than 30-35 lbs at one time either. I feel that I am now making lifestyle changes that I can maintain forever. I have changed my strategy many times over the past couple years, but my goal remains the same. I have eaten strictly low calorie, whole food/paleo, low carb. I change it up frequently so my body doesn't have time to get used to anything.
My husband and I love going out to eat, and I've learned I can even do that and continue to lose weight! I've cut out appetizers and desserts, and I now choose the steamed veggies instead of the potato. I still get amazing food (I LOVE SEAFOOD). Instead of the biggest Prime Rib that I would usually order, I leave that to my husband, have a bite of his, and I'm good to go!
My biggest end goal is to have surgery to remove excess skin (i.e. tuck, lift and add things where they need to go). The excess skin has created a lot of self consciousness on my part, which is crazy considering I wasn't as self conscious with all the fat! Don't get me wrong, I am proud of how far I have come, but I would still love to get surgery soon!
My losing has obviously slowed over the past several months, but I'm still going hard and working out like a crazy woman. I haven't let the number on the scale have the hold over me that it did at the beginning of this journey, but it's still a battle I'm working on. I continue to work hard and feel better every day, but I also enjoy life and participate in celebrations by eating things that probably keep the number on the scale the same. That's ok with me though. I have reached a 130 lb. weight loss in just over 2 years and have no doubt that I will continue to lose and have success in this journey!
I look forward to talking to many of you! Although I became a Spark member over 6 years ago, I never used all of the amazing tools that the site and app offer. Not to mention the awesome support system other members have brought into my life. I never blogged, commented or looked up a video. Now that I am utilizing all of these amazing tools, I feel that nothing can stop me! Good luck all. I will be here along the way and cross the finish line with you!

I constantly change what I'm doing. I try to just focus on becoming healthier while changing foods and workouts so my body never gets used to anything.
I'm from a small town in northwest Ohio. A huge Detroit Tiger and Ohio State Buckeye fan, I love all things sports.
