I'm ready.
I've struggled with my weight since I can remember but over the past 3 years or so I have gained an additional 100 lbs. I'm getting close to being 40 yrs old and I am also at the end of the clothes racks for their sizes. It's time to turn this ship around and I recognize that I need help! Any advice you have is always welcomed and I hope that I can also help other people through what is sure to be a lengthy, but well worth it, journey. Sara 2/1/11 One ...
Sara 2/1/11 One Month Down I can't believe that in this short amount of time I have went from complete laze to actually looking forward to my workouts! And I crave food that's good for me! My clothes are starting to loosen up and my walking speed is increasing. I went to the MOA with my mom today and I was not lagging behind. Yay! 3/1/11 Two Months Down What I've noticed most this month is my desire to workout. On my off days I will still take the dogs for a walk or use my energy cleaning the house. But the point is is that the energy is there! I hit a milestone of 20 lbs lost : D and I can fit into a pair of jeans that didn't fit me before. Last, my thyroid is normal for the first time in over a year! 4/1/11 Three Months Down I'm definitely noticing my energy level has increased dramatically! I'm now walking a little more than 2 miles a day and I get stir-crazy if I don't go... so I always do make it out for my walks. I'm also getting more confident, both in my ability to make it through my workouts but also just in life in general. I'm more apt to speak my mind :) My focus on the scale is decreasing too, I'm now gauging the intensity of my workouts, the size of my clothes and how I feel. Oh, and I've figured out that eating 'bad' food makes me feel bad, so there's no deprivation in not eating it anymore!! YES! 5/1/11 Four Months I celebrated 16 weeks of working out 5 days a week and tracking calories! I have also needed to start doing aerobics and have been jogging on the treadmill. The regular walking routine is not enough anymore. The most notable thing this month is that this is truly becoming a lifestyle change - I can't imagine going back to the way my life was before I made this change. 6/1/11 Five Months I am set up to hit 50 lbs lost this month. It's crazy, this will be the most amount of weight I've ever lost! What I've been noticing lately is that this effort isn't only about me anymore - friends are talking, they're also talking to their friends about my weight loss. It's great, it's like being cheered on by people I don't even know, and that's helping me to stay engaged and focused. I am really starting to shrink out of my old clothes quickly now. I'm up to 1.36 miles on the mill in 25 min - when I first started I could barely hit a mile in 25 min! : ) 7/1/2011 Six Months Highlights for June were that I completed my first 5K in 54 min and I'm now hitting 1 mile on the treadmill in 17:20 min. I did not lose any weight this month but maybe a pound! No gains either, thankfully. I had been experimenting with not tracking my food as consistently and I believe that is why. I just started tracking daily again so time will tell. 8/1/2011 Seven Months Wow, it's the 22nd of Aug and I'm just writing this post. I've strayed a bit off SparkPeople but I'm still working out consistently and trying to eat well most of the time. I feel GREAT!! Today I finally, after months of trying, officially lost 50 lbs. What a milestone - that is the most amount of weight I've ever lost and I'm confident that there will be more. I feel strong and in shape - confident. I definitely need new clothes soon, I'm getting comments that my current clothes are too big! Woohoo!! I've started the 5k my way program on SP and have also started doing aerobics again. Feels wonderful to push myself. 30 min on the treadmill now gets me 1.82 miles : D 11/1/11 Ten Months I took the entire summer off of Spark although I've still been exercising consistently - 5 days a week, no excuses! My weight hasn't changed though because I haven't been tracking my calories, checking message boards, encouraging others nor have I been in a Biggest Loser contest like I had been every month from the beginning. I'm back now and ready to keep moving forward. I notice that I don't have the energy I had when I was eating healthier. I'm excited to be back! Oh, my accomplishment is that I can now walk 2 miles in 30 min!

My Goals:
I want to live a more active life. I want to learn to get back on my feet after a "slip" and ditch the all - or - nothing approach to my past attempts at weight loss. I really don't have any specific weight loss goals, just to do the best I can each week and try to be mindful and purposeful in my pursuit of an active life. I know that my lifestyle dictates how much I weigh - I certainly was not attempting to weigh 325 lbs but I did because I ate bad food and sat around too much. So it stands to reason that if I move more and eat better I'll weigh a lot less someday.
My Program:
I plan to set small, attainable goals for myself so I remember that this is not a race but a lifestyle change. *Track calories *Drink water - lots of it *Work out 5 days a week. Strength training each of the days I work out, just alternating muscle groups for their rest. Treadmill for cardio until more weight is lost so I don't put too much stress on my joints. *Log into Spark everyday
Personal Information:
I'm from Minnesota. I'm married, no kids but we do have 2 boxer dogs. I have hypothyroidism and am interested in communicating with others that are dealing with this disorder and are trying to lose weight too as it makes it a little more tricky.
