Now I sit me down to eat,
I pray the Lord I will not cheat.
If I should reach for cake or bread
please guide my hand to greens instead!
But help me Lord, if I indulge
and lose the Battle of the Bulge,
to understand that ounce for ounce,
It's Who I Am That Really Counts!

I'm excited for the 2017 Winter 5% Challenge I just joined. It starts Jan 14th and runs through March 11th. 8 weeks of challenges, motivation, support, fun...can't wait!!!

I'm a yo-yo dieter who's on the road to break that awful habit! No more diets for me, just a life-change that will start slow at first, taking one goal at a time until I have that as a life habit. Then I'll move on to the next goal and so on! I can overcome and will overcome!

Sept 2013, when I went in for my 6 month check-up, I got a wake up call. My blood sugar was "a little high," my dr said. Since diabetes runs in my family (both my mom & oldest sister had type 2 diabetes), this news shook me up! My dear sister passed away 3 yrs ago from complications to diabetes. I am taking this serious and working on a few helps I've found. Now I have a meter and am trying to lower my blood sugar levels by testing myself and eating healthier, low-carb meals.

Fitness Minutes: 79,051

My Goals:
1: Drink 8+ cups water daily.
2: Walk 15+ minutes a day, 6 days a week.
3: Strength-Train for 10+ minutes on Mon/Wed/Fri
4: Eat no more than 20 Net-Carbs total for the day.
5. Sleep a minimum of 7 hrs, nightly.

Overall Goal: to weigh-in between 125-135 lbs.

My Program:
2017 Winter 5% Challenge Exercise Commitment: Jan 14 - Mar 11th(???)
Cardio: Walking 15+ min a day, Mon-Sat, arthritis permitting.
Strength Training: at home with weights/stretchy bands and/or ball using DVDs or SP exercises. Mon/Wed/Fri for 10+ minutes per session.

2017 Winter 5% Challenge Diet Commitment":
Low-Carb/High-Fat; Keto
(trying to stay within 20-50 Net Carbs daily)
Water - 8 cups, daily

    Hi Ruth-Ann - Glad you have joined the 5% challenge - it is a lot of fun. It usually runs for 8 weeks so I think it ends on March 11th.
    Thanks for the birthday wishes and prayers for my Mom. She seems a little brighter today.

    Your low carb day sounds good so far. I am still struggling since it is hard to find low carb snacks I can carry in my pocket at work. My weight goes up or down as much as 6# in a day. Clothes still fit well, labs were pretty good over all and BG are consistently staying down so over all, doing well. Need to figure out portions for low carb meals that lower calories slightly. I actually have better eating days on my days off and get more water in those days. Keep pushing and I will too !
