It's how you perceive yourself!!

I am done with all the mumbo jumbo media marble of body images! I lost 40 lbs four years ago and yet I still feel fat in comparison to what the media shows me on tv! What really annoys me is the effect it is having on girls younger than me! My sister told me my eight year old niece was talking with other girls at school about losing weight and being thin! That did it for me!!! I want to show my niece that you do not have to be stick thin to be beautiful! I want to show her that to be yourself, ...

What really annoys me is the effect it is having on girls younger than me! My sister told me my eight year old niece was talking with other girls at school about losing weight and being thin! That did it for me!!! I want to show my niece that you do not have to be stick thin to be beautiful! I want to show her that to be yourself, and be healthy and love life is ALL that matters! So if I do lose weight it is not because of the social pressures, it's because I want to be more healthy and more agile, less tired and grumpy and more happy and motivated!!!!

I understand your pain literally and figuratively. Most of my friends are not really into exercising and my boyfriend lives in Calgary so I spend a lot of time running alone. That's why I was thrilled to find runningroom clinics. Relatively cheap and they offer a good support system of people. Also I have some pain when I run as well. I get plantar fasciitis and I have flat feet so finding the right shoe is key. I went to Runningroom last night actually and got new shoes for running. The clerk was pretty helpful, but I knew my issues before I went in so I could tell them what I needed. You need a specific type of shoe if your going to run or even walk, based on how you step. I in particular need a very supportive, extra cushioning shoe. If your not wearing the right shoe it could be the cause of some of your pain.

I'm living in Oliver Square, just off Jasper Ave. About 3 months ago I stopped buying a bus pass and started walking everywhere. It has helped a lot. If you think your pain is because your carrying too much weight, the only thing you can do is slim down. Spend a little extra cash and get good shoes and start walking everywhere The river valley has great trails with some hills for a challenge. Although if you live really far south his may not be a good location for you. I'd try walking for a week or so to see if the pain goes away, if not check with your doctor to see if he/she can help/. Exercise left me in some pain for a few weeks until I got used to it, and got fitter. Now I'm training for a 10k and feel good mentally and physically.

I'm a busy person between splitting my weekends between here and Calgary and training for my 10k. But if you ever want to join me for a jog, or a walk or something we can work something out. Could take a little planning since I don't drive and I live down town but whatever!

Its a DVD. I highly recommend it... worth every penny. My arms are SO much stronger and are looking more trim- my endurance has increased... Its only a 20 minute work out, but you feel it and you sweat!

I heard that Jillian Michaels has a 55 minute workout that is impossible to finish... I dont know what it is called, but I am going to try it. I also heard you can get different work out DVDs on Netflix, but I havent tried it yet. I want to try Yoga Booty Ballet.. lol

I have heard a lot of good things about the Wii fit, but I dont have one.

Hi Calipso.Katie
30 Day Shred is a work out by Jillian Michaels (Biggest Loser trainer). Its crazy... Level 1 is hard, level 2 is crazy and I havent seen level 3 yet. Its circuits of fairly easy excercises but combined they make your muscles noodles!

Hey Katie I currently train at Club fit Down town Edmonton. They are pretty cheap in comparison and they let me pay in monthly payments. They also don't sign you in for the whole time. While you commit to a certain number of sessions based on what you want and your goals, if it turns out you loose your job or can't afford to do it, you can cancel at any time. Then you just pay for the difference (meaning if you've used more sessions than you've paid for). I know the price goes down depending on how many sessions you "want". I signed for 72 sessions. That's 2 hours a week for 9 months. My rate works out to be $45 an hour. My monthly payment is $285 for training and $40 for the monthly membership.

For me it's worth every penny. My trainer is amazing. She is not only my trainer but a friend and she offers support both in the gym and in life in general. With a trainer it's about finding a personal fit. Finding someone that you click with but also who understands your goals and is not afraid to take you out of your comfort zone. I've had 3 different trainers over the years and she is by far the best! I have come so far since I've been with her. I actually have biceps! My entire lifestyle has changed.

I'm not sure where you live but I've heard some really bad things about World Health Club. They seem to be over priced and not very flexible. I've also heard in general that they aren't very friendly (at least in the downtown location). I 'm only putting this warning out there because I've heard it from 4 different people and have experienced some rudeness from them myself. The people I know who have trained at World Health Club were not satisfied and one even had a legal dispute with them.

Also I saw on you Page that your albertan? Are you still in Canada? If so and are interested, Runningroom offers free group runs 2 times a week and several clinics for walking and running. The clinics are only 69$ and run for 10 weeks. If you like running or walking and are looking for a cheap and fantastic environment try there. They are fantastic. There are also several boot camps in the area that are not too costly and they meet 2-3 times a week. I've seen them go and wow! They kick your butt!
