When I run, I soar

Mine is a pretty typical story...yo yo dieter....finally found the Spark in 2008, and over time went from donut eating doubles tennis player to marathon runner and learned how to eat better and smarter....

Then post-marathon, injuries mounted up, and I started eating like a madman...for over a year. Gained back just about every pound I lost. Sound familiar? Started detesting running because it wasn't comfortable or natural anymore. Sigh...big SIGH actually.

But I ...

Then post-marathon, injuries mounted up, and I started eating like a madman...for over a year. Gained back just about every pound I lost. Sound familiar? Started detesting running because it wasn't comfortable or natural anymore. Sigh...big SIGH actually.

But I didn't give up....while my eating was and is not where it needs to be, I kept on running and going to the gym...

And while my eating habits still aren't great, my running habits are and my weight is gradually coming off...I run at a minimum 30 miles each week....

Running liberates me from the mess that life throws at me and from the mess I add to my life....running helps me grow as a person...running helps me build community with my fellow runners...

Truly, when I run, I soar...and I am someone who didn't like to run for the sake of running. Why would anyone do that to themselves? Pound their bodies that way? Why? Because it shapes us, molds us and helps define us!

Why do we run? Because we are runners and it is what we do.

And surely, if I can do it, why not you? WHY NOT? YOU CAN! You really really can!

“Most people, if they had really learned to look into their own hearts, would know that they do want, and want acutely, something that cannot be had in this world. There are all sorts of things in this world that offer to give it to you, but they never quite keep their promise.
C.S. Lewis

Happy 2nd day of January. We are all filled with hope for this New Year. However, how quickly that frizzles out once we have to face a challenging experience or hard struggle.

We so look at struggles or difficulties as things we dislike, as well something that is nothing but a burden. Yet, those difficulties and struggles are what gives us character, inner strength and gifts that we can share to help another person.

I am positive our 2013 will have some struggles and difficulties for us. However, may we look at them differently. This year may we see them as our opportunity to be a better person, a person of substance.

Let us make 2013 the year that we allow yourself to be molded into the Masterpiece that God wants us to be.
