Former Professional Dieter
Since I can remember, I have fallen for every "Get Thin Quick" gimmick...I might even venture to say that I have fallen for every fad diet possibly known to man. I started with the infomercial products: the "Ab-Doer", bought that; the "Ab Roller", of course; the "Ab Glide"; certainly; the "Ab Lounge", why not?! And let's not forget the "Ab Energizer" (the one that shocked your muscles to "strengthen" them), I mean, who wouldn't want that?!?! I am embarassed to admit that I ...
I am embarassed to admit that I even bought a "Shake Weight"...boy did my boyfriend (now fiancé) have a field day with that one! Amid my "infomercial frenzi" I would try different diet pills. I started with Xenedryne, then played with Hydroxycut, Ripped Fuel, Yellow Jackets, the "Diet Patch" (bet you hadn't heard of that one!) and even straight ephedra pills at one point (while they were still legal). I probably used each item for MAYBE a month and then they started collecting dust with the exception of the "Ab Energizer", which was returned as I ended up shocking the ever living $%!* out of myself...actually to the point where I still have small scars from burns on my stomach...who would have thought THAT could happen?!?!?! And diets......where to begin?!??! In conjunction with the diet pills (which I habitually took), I tried: The Grapefruit Diet-Fail. The Atkins Diet-Fail. The Scarsdale Diet-Fail. The "Celeb-Diet" ,as my college friends and I called it which consisted of Diet Coke and Cigaretts-Fail. The Cabbage Soup Diet-EPIC Fail...just to name a few... Unfortunately, it took me quite awhile to figure out that a "quick fix" wasn't going to "fix" anything...which is precisely how I found myself here. I understand that I need a lifestye change and that will not happen overnight. I also understand that my need to "control" my weight is deeper than just the number on the scale and fitting into a size 0; I know that I have a lot of inner work to do before I will ever be happy with what I see in the mirror. Saying that, I have decided to take charge and completely overhaul my "diet mentality." If I had to name one thing that I learned through all my endeavors, it would be that it is much easier to succeed when you have the support of others. I hope joining Spark will help me through this process.
