I am a 32 year old active, full-time working dietitian mother of an ambitious 4 year old girl, Jaeleigh, and a wild 2 year old son, Jenson. I am married to the love of my life of 6 years (11 years dating) who is also an active 32 year old full-time working nurse father. In our spare time we are working on the continuous project of remodeling our home and just loving life! I enjoy cooking and baking (with new recipes especially!) and event planning.
Our family loves the outdoors and loves the beach. Vacationing is our passion, although at this time we only get to travel about once per year! We also love camping, skiing/snowboarding, snowshoeing, kayaking, and basically anything outside!
Our daily passion is healthy living in general. We strive for the best home environment we can create including our food (first and foremost), our activity, and our lifestyle. We strive to eat mostly fruits/vegetables, 100% whole grains, lean protein sources, and organic dairy in moderation. We strive for whole foods and limited hormone, antibiotic, and chemical exposure by choosing local and more so choosing certified organic. This year is our third year with our CSA and we recommend CSA membership to everyone!
We stay active by running (our first choice of regular activity), using our small home gym, and limiting our TV/sit down time (we don't have cable/satellite and our TV exposure is about 1 movie every few weeks and we like it that way!!). We are doing our best to keep our home free of harsh chemicals by, once again, seeking out natural, organic methods of cleaning, freshening the air, and overall living.
This really became a much bigger deal with our daughter was born. We knew hands down that she would be 100% breastfed (for multiple reasons) and 100% cloth diapered, and that she would sleep on an organic mattress (crib and co-sleeper), be changed on an organic changing pad and be surrounded by as many natural, organic fabrics as possible. So far, we've kept our promises to our little girl (and now little boy too) and we know in our hearts that she is being raised healthier than many.
We often get deemed "obsessed." I often hear the term "crunchy" used in regards to how we parent and, we flat out get told that we're going to die of stressing about these things before we would die of chemical exposure. What people don't really understand is that all of our doings have had a natural flow. We did not change our lifestyles in a day. We have done it over time. Nearly as long as we've been together - 10 years now, we have been making healthy changes and even before that, as individuals. People do not realize that this is not a "stressful feat" for us. This is something we enjoy. We love taking the steps to seek out more organic food options at the supermarket, we love getting online to research what type of mattress is as close to organic as possible and we love the conversations we have in regards to healthy living. It is a huge part of who we are as individuals and who we are as a family. It is not stressful.
So this is us. Many call us crazy, but we call ourselves smart! We are just two loving, hard-working people raising our little kiddos the best way we know how, while trying to stay healthy!
1. Drink 8 cups of water daily.
2. Exercise 5 Days / Week.
3. Eat Whole Foods.
I live in Northern Michigan where I work at a cute little hospital as a Clinical Dietitian and Program Coordinator / Certified Diabetes Educator for our out-patient Diabetes Education Program.
I love being outside. I like all of the seasons (winter is a smidge too long though). I love dark chocolate, learning more about nutrition, sports, running, the beach, cooking, and lots more!

Like I said, I'm not really in the market for a substitute right now, but from what I can tell, when you do want the flavor but not the calories sugar and fat, this sounds like the best way to go... now if I were to add a couple peanuts to make it crunchy... hmmm.
But then, I know that given how much I love PB--I sit and eat spoonsful at my desk for a snack at work, even--that as much as I'd like to eat it every day, my gallbladderlessness sometimes makes it hard for my body to process the fat, even healthy fats. So, that makes it even more appealing...
The lady at my class mixed some up for us the other day, I should have mentioned, and instead of adding sugar, she added splenda. I couldn't really tell the difference.
