Recovering from (lesser) medical drama

I actually lost 45 pounds in 2005 using online WeightWatchers, and then I continued to use their site for the next year for maintenance; I switched to SP because I didn't want to keep paying a fee, and I think that SP's interface is actually much better--for one thing, it's too easy to take your fat intake too LOW on WW.

Last year I lost about 6 weeks of gym time due to a DVT and pulmonary embolism. It took some time to get myself back into shape, but I did it. Then I went on a ~550-mile bike trip with my father in July, and tore a muscle in my back, which took over a month to diagnose and another month to heal after I started working on my abs to balance out my core. Since then I've kind of been waffling on getting the weight off, and making some poor food choices, especially during the memorable week at the beginning of November that contained Halloween, Election Night, AND my birthday. At this point, however, many of my dress pants are tight and I just can't afford a new wardrobe, so...

Fitness Minutes: 52,781

My Goals:
Short term: Get to a point where I'm willing to do another Wii Fit body test without the fear of that stupid animated Wii Fit board calling out the firing squad.

Long term: Fit comfortably back into my good suit.

My Program:
Lift weights & do cardio at the gym three (3) times a week. Use my Wii Fit daily, with a minimum of a 10-minute run. DO NOT EAT fast food or take-out.

Personal Information:
I am a PhD student in sociology at the University of Wisconsin. My dissertation is on Facebook use. I have three tattoos, three cats, and technicolor hair.

I play City of Heroes, mostly on the Pinnacle server; my main character is an electric/electric blaster, if that means anything to you. :p I also love my Wii (Fit).

Other Information:
Um, here is some music that I like: Liz Phair, Magnetic Fields, Sufjan Stevens, Garmarna, Metric, The Handsome Family, Love Psychedelico, Guy Forsyth, Concrete Blonde, Lily Allen, the Go-Go's, Chris Isaak, Iron & Wine, Laika, Ladytron, Recoil, Figgy Duff, Rilo Kiley, Bran Van 3000

My tastes are pretty eclectic.

I see I haven't come by in awhile, and I feel so bad! I hope that things are going well for you, and that you are happy blogging and playing City of Heroes. I'm back in school too, but only for my Masters degree. Talk to you soon :)

Hi! Yikes, a pulmonary embolism? I'm not sure how long ago that was, but I hope that you are doing better now and not overdoing it at the gym. Take things slow and easy, and don't try to do too much. The muscle tone will come back, and those stubborn five pounds will bounce right off. I hope that you are feeling better. By the way, love the new pic of your karoke outing :)
