new hopes for old problems

My name is Robyn, but most people call me Byn. I am 32 years old and weigh 325 lbs. I have been heavy all my life and have struggled through so many different "diets" and weight loss programs, that honestly I lost count of them all. I hope that with this community and new way of looking at things I will have better results than before.

I work overnights as a Traffic Producer for a cluster of radio stations in the Twin Cities. It's a fun job, but not one that promotes much physical activity. I already know that being active and getting my exercise in is going to be one of the hardest things for me.

I also Intern with The Darkness on the Edge of Town Paranormal Radio show on weekends at KTLK-FM. Been with them for over 2 years now, and have a blast! Occasionally I get to go on paranormal retreats with them :) Looking forward to the next trip to the Palmer Hotel in Sauk Centre MN this Halloween!

A couple days ago I was fed up with being the fat person at EVERY activity I went to. I was looking at photos that I have of me on my myspace page with normal sized people, and I realised just how HUGE I am. I said to myself, "This is it... I am DONE with being fat, having to buy my clothes from "specialty stores" and just not feeling good about myself.
So I started looking online for diet programs and gyms, and getting more and more frustrated with the costs of all the different programs.

I really don't make much money at my job, and barely make enough money to pay all my bills on time, so paying 40+ dollars a month on a gym membership, and 20+ for a diet program were just out of reach for me, but I knew I had to do SOMETHING.

I finally ended up keying in "Free diet and exercise" in the google search, and after looking thru a few pages that claimed to be free, but really weren't, I found Spark people. WOW, I had no idea that something FREE could be so supportive and user friendly. I found everything I need here, and just wish I had found it sooner.

I have been trying a lot of new freggies, and finding that I really like them.. except cucumber... That one makes me gag if I have it plain. Chopped up in tunasalad it's not bad.
Let's see... some of the new things I have tried;

1)Garbanzo beans - YUMMERS... warm by themselves, cold on a salad, wow- never thought that a bean would be so very tasty! (Never realised that they were like the main ingredient in hummus, which I absolutely love- shows how much I used to pay attention to labels, so technically I have eatten them before, just never in the "whole" form)

2)Tofutti non- dairy frozen fake ice cream- I was a little unsure about this one when I picked it up, but figured "hey, its healthier than regular icecream, and if it tastes nasty, its ONLY a pint that I will be tossing." ... I bought the Wildberry flavor- and have to say that it doesn't quite taste like icecream, but it doesn't taste bad at all... in fact, I found myself wanting to grab some more of it... but held off so I could have more food later in the day.

3 - Tried tofu for the first time. chopped it up and was brave enough to try a little chunk 'raw' - didn't taste like much of anything. not bad, not really good either. So I cooked up the rest of my portion with some chili powder, paprika, garlic powder, added in some mixed veggies and stir fried it with a little olive oil. Tasted really good, but i think I added a bit too much chili powder- REALLY spicy. LOL... next time i won't add so much.

**More new foods to come soon.**

Happy Birthday to You!!

Born today, you are one of those frustrating individuals who seems to doubt his every ability -- and even those things that you do better than anyone else are not done well enough as far as you are concerned, and you can often be found bemoaning the fact that you are not cut out for the fast-paced world of accomplishment -- even though you are able to accomplish many things. Some may consider this attitude of yours to be nothing but false modesty, but there is nothing false about it; you sincerely believe that you are not as good at anything as others make you out to be. Fortunately, you have your own record to prove you wrong again and again.

One thing you know how to do perhaps better than anyone else born under your sign is dress well and behave properly in all manner of social situations; you are an expert at protocol, your manners are likely flawless, and your taste in clothing, food, wine and the other good things in life is likely unassailable. You like the good stuff.

Hope your day is wonderful!
