Becoming a better Sarah

I'm really excited...I've said it before, but it's really time to get serious and make some lifestyle changes to become healthier!

I'm 24, from Michigan and desperately trying to start a new life for myself. The transition time after college is painfully difficult and it is even more difficult when dealing with weight problems.

I'm 24, from Michigan and desperately trying to start a new life for myself. The transition time after college is painfully difficult and it is even more difficult when dealing with weight problems.

I have been facing problems with my weight for about 5 years now. I grew up in an active family (I was ALWAYS playing outside when I was younger and my best friend was a boy, so it was the rough and tough, climb a tree kinda play). My gramma was a WONDERFUL cook and I was often encouraged to take seconds ...and it didn't matter because I was burning off 10X as much as I was taking in. I earned names like "Daddy long legs" and didn't have a worry in sight (regarding my health). I maintained my weight in high school through being on the swim team...it kept me in pretty good shape. After high school, I went off to college and ate the typical crappy diet in the dorms. I did alright but after my first semester, my mom got sick and passed away from cancer (I also lost my "good cooK" gramma a month following, whom i was very close to). I immediately turned my feelings toward food...and ate my feelings away. I gained 40-50 lbs. and have been unable to drop any (for good). I am down about 15 lbs. from my heaviest but ideally would like to be about 155-160 lbs. again. It'd be really nice to be able to FINALLY do this and gain control of my life once and for all!

To me, numbers are just a small indicator of what I'd like to have happen regarding becoming healthier. I don't so much care how much I weight but more how my clothes fit (and being a size 10 would be great again) and how healthy my body is. My blood pressure is good but I do need to get my cholesterol checked again. Down the road those are two things that are a major influence on your quality of life.

I am going to wear a new, hot Victoria's Secret bathing suit this summer. I am, I am, I am! It's been 7 years since a bikini and it's TIME for a change. :)

Good luck to everyone who is working towards their goals. You can take control of your life and be happy with yourself :)

My Goals:
I have a LOT of goals for this year including ones regarding my health, happiness, career and outlook on life...

I've been struggling to lose weight that I gained after high school and after losing my mom to cancer. Of course it was hard, but I know that my mom would want me to make changes to be a better me :)

I'd like to finally lose 30 lbs. this year. I'd like to be wearing all of my beautiful, old "skinnY" jeans by summer. I'd like to wear a bikini this summer after 7 summers not wearing one. I'd like to become confident and believe that I am invincible. Overall, I'd like to make my heart healthy, my body stronger and my mind happier :)

My Program:
I'm really going to make some overall lifestyle changes because nothing is easy when it comes to improving your overall self.

There is no mystery to losing weight. It is a pure science. I am going to get to the gym as much as possible and change my workouts as my body adjusts to them. It never hurts to try new things. I am going to really focus on my eating habits (this is where the main problem is). I am going to try to drink more water and less sugary juice and soda. I have given up fast food and am going to try to stay away from the daily binges between meals. I am going to focus more on my emotions when I feel the need to binge.

I am so excited for my lifestyle changes and I can't wait to see results not only on my waist but in my overall attitude towards life!

Ugh I did that a few weeks ago - got sick over junk food. It's a good reminder of how far you've come, huh? Now that the weather's getting nicer, you'll be staying on track like nobody's business. :) How's life otherwise?

Hey Sarah! Good to hear from you! My Dad and I are going to Vegas in a few weeks, and so I've been motivated by that, the races I'm running this summer, as well as a trip to the beach in September. I haven't worn a bathing suit in public since junior high, I think, so this oughta be interesting!

Good Luck on your triathalon. That sounds amazing! I'm contemplating a half-marathon for next year.. we shall see what the future holds, right?

Meanwhile - Love the background! :)
