You know the old saying if at first you don't succeed? Well, another year on and I'm still trying!

This year has to be a major effort to help my husband combat a diabetic complication he has developed and which is reversible if he gets better control now otherwise he may lose sight in two years if he doesn't. You know the old saying if at first you don't succeed? Well, another year on and I'm still trying!

This year has to be a major effort to help my husband combat a diabetic complication he has developed and which is reversible if he gets better control now otherwise he may lose sight in two years if he doesn't. He rebels against common sense just like a little boy so I will do the best I can with our food and exercise without making it too obvious. The biggest problem is stress and I can only do so much to help with that.

We are both overweight, under exercised and over stressed. This year we will both combat this.

We can do it!


1st January 2013

This year I will walk miles, eat well, lose weight and be fit and healthy.

I can do this - I need to do this NOW!


21st June 2012 - midsummer day

A good day to update my page and it certainly needs it!

I've had a rough time since October 2011 and my health and weight have suffered because of it. Now I am making a commitment to myself.

I will take time out for myself every day even if only 15 minutes to relax.

I will exercise at least 30 minutes every day.

I will moderate my eating and drinking.

I will lose weight.

I will be fit and healthy as I gradually ease into retirement in a few years time.

Hubby and I will be sailing in Florida by this time next year so I must be fit.

Go me!!!

October 2011

Well I was doing pretty good until last month and a holiday in Florida. Too much food, too much wine and I feel awful again. Full of aches and pains and it's all my own fault for neglecting myself and indulging. Now it's cold and wet back in the UK and I just want to huddle with a good book, chocolate and a blanket!

Starting back to fitness again!

I got everything under control last summer and was heading for a good weight loss and greater fitness and then everything rather went downhill. But I'm back again now with renewed determination.

My present goal is just a little one - I want to get back to 170 again by my birthday so here goes!

July 2010

Another birthday yesterday and I am a few pounds lighter than last year. Just a few but that's better than stuck and here I am ready to go for another few off during this next year.

It is taking me a VERY long time to move the weight but I feel so much better than when I started with Sparks back in 2006.

I'm now fighting trigeminal neuralgia and high cholesterol. The first with tablets and the latter currently just diet.

The last year has been a happy year! We have worked hard, spent time with our daughters and son and had a lot of trips away together.

Looking forward to another one :)

August 2009

I have now started walking again as I need to do a little more gentle exercise to see if it helps with my headaches.

I'm tracking my walks on Walker Tracker where my daughters are both joining in so I'm helping them to get fit also.

January 2009

Ok now I've been stuck at 175lbs since October 2007. Seems unbelievable that so much time has passed but I see this as a positive thing because it means I have stabilised at a stone (14lbs) less than when I started with Spark People.

I am going to work harder now to get to the next step and I would like to see 2010 in another stone down. I've joined the gym and we're starting on a revised healthy eating plan so I look forward to seeing what this year brings.

I have had a few months of not paying much attention to my diet or exercise and the weight is creeping back on.

Health problems took priority but now I've decided that I really have to make this work for me.

The reasons are many but here's a few:

I will be fitter and a healthy weight to show my daughters that it is possible to be fit and healthy at 50+, 60+ and even into your 70s and 80s should I be fortunate enough to make that.

I will be fitter and healthier because I will get so much more out of this life if I am.

I want to fit into a smaller size clothes - 12 would be great!

Ok I can do this!

June 2007
I have struggled with my weight for the past 30+ years and had already been on another one of my diets for over 6 months without losing a pound.

Since joining Spark People I am losing weight slowly but consistenly (apart from a little holiday glitch), I'm exercising far more than I used to and I've gained many friends on the forums. This really is a great site as I'm sure you all know.

The main change I've made since joining SP is drinking so much water and not counting coffee or tea as part of the daily intake.

My Goals:
1. My main aim is to get fitter and healthier.

2. Reduce body fat to a healthier range. Target weight is 150lbs but I'll tackle them 10lbs at a time.

Mini weight goals:

a. 180lbs - 17 August 2007.

19th October 2007 -175lbs

b. 170lbs

c. 160lbs

d. 150lbs = Goal!





My Program:
Eating healthy foods and staying within recommended calorie levels but increasing fibre and protein consumption.

No sugar and no alcohol.

Exercise:

Yoga each morning 5 times a week.

Walk daily to a minimum of 10 miles a week.

Strength training and cardio workouts at gym or home at least twice a week.



Personal Information:
I was born in 1953 in Yorkshire, England.

I grew up and went to school in Rhodesia and Malawi and spent my early working years in Rhodesia and Botswana.

I met my husband in Botswana while he was working on a 3 year contract out there and we travelled back to England overland together. Then we married and returned to Africa (this time West Africa) for 3 years.

We now live in Wareham, Dorset, England and also have a home in Florida for escaping from the English winters. We run our own business in Dorset.

My husband loves food and hates exercise and diets!

We have three daughters born in 1972, 1981 and 1983 and a I have a step son born in 1968.

Other Information:
In my spare time I love practising yoga, swimming, walking, reading.

December 2008 - Joined gym ready for 2009 new health and fitness drive.

We love to visit new and exciting places.

Sherry is our muffin Queen...........she bakes muffins for the family when they come over........all kinds of them.......... and i was wondering if this recipie she would like............not a spark food so we can't make them .......unless the family come .....

Are you staying in Florida for the winter............ what a wonderful place to be.............. I bet the warm air is easier on the joints?
so nice your son will take the blue beauty out for a spin........... You must be all excited and almost packed? less stress hopefully........ enjoy ............ and leave your worries behind if you can......

Same as you, I let some of my good habits slide for a while. Now I'm also re-commited to daily walks, and etc - and. cutting way down on the lovely micro brews I've come to enjoy in my old age!!! LOL! 200 + calories for a litle 12 oz bottle. hmmm... I could make a cool monument with all the bottles I've emptied over the past year or two! :)
too much of a good thing though.
