I decided in June that I wanted to be a healthier person. Really, it was two years ago when my Uncle died at 67 - as did my mother and my grandfather - I knew I could not go on as I was. In July, I told a friend that I wanted to lose weight, get healthy and really change my life. She told me about Sparkpeople. I played around with it a little, but until a weight loss contest started at work, i really didn't try very hard.

From Sept 1 to Dec 22 I dieted and exercised (when I could). read articles, started likeing myself and how I felt. I changed from a couch potato to a doer. No longer do I head for my favorite chair when I get home, I wash dishes, clean house - DO something.

At the final weigh in, I had lost 12% of my begginning body weight. Sadly for me, four guys lost 15% or more. So, I did not win the money prize. However, I really feel that I am winning overall.

Because I am not done! Because I am not stopping. Because I lost that 12% through hard work, healthy eating and a positive attitude - not fad diets, deprivation, diet pills (personally, I felt this was cheating and he should be disqualified!) or starvation. Because I am making permanent a change in my life - not a temporary diet.

I lost the contest at work - but I am going to win the war with bad health - I'd like to do a follow up in three or four months and see how many of us keep it off - and lose more!

My Goals:
My next goal is to lose another 10 % whic would be 25 lbs. - Because if I look at the big picture, I will become overwhelmed. So 10 % here I come!


My Program:
My program is to track my food using the spark people nutirition tracker. I am trying to focus more on nutrition and a healthy life style than weight loss -though use the shrinking number as a tool to measure my progress.



Personal Information:
I am in the Seattle area, married, three kids. Most of the things I love to do involve sitting - except camping - I am working toward changing that about myself.


Other Information:
I want to expreience life to it's fullest! I want to dance, sing, canp, hike, jump and twirl. I am DONE being the fat girl.
