Committing to a healthier me
I am a married working mom of two. I have struggled with my weight since my early teen years. In my late 20s, I begin to go up more than up and down with my weight. After I had my first child, I went back down, more or less, to the weight I was pre-pregnancy, but then ended up adding on another 10 lbs before I became pregnant with my daughter. After I had my daughter, I lost some of the baby weight, but not all. I reached my heaviest weight ever and stayed there until June of 2010. ...
I have never minded exercising and have at different times got on exercise kicks, but never stuck with any program for long. I don't mind the actual exercising, it has always been the getting to it. Somehow, there is always something to do. I tell myself, "OK, I will just finish this then exercise." And, that was before I had my kids! After I had them, the reasons and to-dos hat were "road blocks" to my exercising multiplied exponentially. Finally, last year I was tired of being tired, of feeling out of shape and took control of my time and eating. I started tracking what I ate, I started making better decisions -- most of the time -- and I started trying to incorporate exercising into my weekly routine. I still struggle to find the time; however, instead of being down on myself about what I haven't done, I try to think about the positives: I consistently make better choices in terms of my eating habits. I have stuck to my resolve for over 6 months (the longest streak of my life, thus far). I tell other people about my healthy achievements to reinforce to myself the reality of my choices. I share with others how SP has worked for me and built a community of people in my family and work environments that also are committed to making healthier choices in their lives. So, I am beginning 2011 resolved to continue on my journey to a healthier me.
