New American Gothic?
I'm kind of a private person. Glad to offer any help, consolation, shared laughter, or other support I can, but on-line pages make me uneasy, so you won't find me here very much, or very much of me here, either.
All the best to you on your journeys! Maybe we'll meet someday.
Heavy all my life (except for two short periods when I lost the weight, then lost the battle to keep it lost). I want to be in the 'healthy' range, and have my body happier with me.
Going down S-L-O-W-L-Y, by design [my MD & I agreed on approx. 2lb/month, because that way I have a better chance of keeping it off]
Choosing to use 'real' foods, because then I'll stick better, so portion control is ABSOLUTELY central. Re-education. Trying to re-orient on veg and fruit (I'm a cheese-a-holic).
Exercise? love it/hate it, mostly haven't time to do it well--but I'm trying--and my dogs are trying to help.
"Britomart" is a female knight in one book of Spenser's epic The Faerie Queene. She meets challenges bravely--like I'm trying to do with health and aging.

In moments of surprise we catch at least a glimpse of the joy to which gratefulness opens the door.
-- David Steindl-Rast, Gratefulness, the Heart of Prayer
Because of your wonderful Brother David quote on the gratitude thread, I thought you might enjoy this, which I posted yesterday on the "other" gratitude thread (The Thanksgiving Community):
The quote is from the fabulous book _Gratefulness, the Heart of Prayer_ , my introduction to the great being that is Brother David in the early 80s. My teacher, Swami Satchidananda, and Brother David were friends, which gave me more awareness of him.
Here's what Brother David said about his own book in 2002:
"It makes me happy that, after almost two decades, this book still finds a steady stream of new readers. Now and then, I hear people who made Gratefulness their daily reading in a time of crisis, in sickness, or on their deathbed. This fills me with awe. So does that fact that groups who read and discuss books together have found this one helpful. What do I myself like about it? That it treats the main aspects of gratefulness in a systematic way, without – I hope – being dry. And I specially like the list of key words arranged from A to Z (yes, I even have one for 'X')."
