I suffer with a condition called RSD (reflex sympathetic dystrophy) which is a progressive dissorder that affects your nervous system. I got RSD after a surgery on my back. These issues led to weight gain. At my heaviest I weighed 334lbs. Having lost 140lbs in 2 years and 7 months, I feel better than ever, and I am now on my way to becoming a certified personal trainer though ACE. I could not have done this without the amazing support from everyone here at Sparkpeople.

It is now my goal to help as many other people as I can, not only through sparkpeople.com, but also through my weight loss blog, notimetow8.com . I cannot wait to help others live happy, healthy lives.

All the best,
Brett

Your story reminds me to stay on my path to getting healthy. I herniated my L5 disc more than ten years ago, and have done everything I can to avoid surgery. Now I'm slowly starting to get healthier and hopefully that will help to alleviate my chronic pain and lack of involvement in life in general. Thanks for sharing your story! I'm inspired for sure!

Love seeing your inspiration story.

Sorry you lost your father. I've read Richard Bernstein MD's wonderful book THE DIABETES SOLUTION and learned so much. He was found to have Type 1 diabetes at age 12 and he is now a healthy 78, because he studied his illness. He went to medical school at 45 so he could get doctors to listen to him. Now he mainly treats Type 2 diabetics. He says ALL obese people are Insulin Resistant. He has great lectures on YouTube. He doesn't follow the ADA's diet.

You may not remember me. But I bought your PS3 from you one year ago yesterday. You talked to me a bit about your weight loss journey that day and I can't thank you enough for it. I got started on Sparkpeople quickly thereafter and though I wasn't able to get going at the time I still had the drive. I spoke with my doctor and he made some recommendations. Well, this morning I was 246lbs, down from the 353 I would have been when we met. That 107lbs.

Today I also ran my first race. I skipped doing a 5k and went for a big one. This morning I completed the Half Marathon at the OKC Memorial Marathon.

So thanks for helping me take the first step all that time ago. It made a difference.
