I grew up playing softball and being active. I never really needed to keep track of my food intake, it got burned off. Later down the road, after having 2 boys and not being active anymore. The weight just crept on little by little. I tried to watch what was going into my mouth. Knowing that healthy foods and exercise is how you control your wieght. But doing it was another thing, it just did not happen. I was making all kinds of excuses. So the weight just kept coming.

One day in April of 2010. I dared to get on the scale and was not happy at the number I saw 203 lbs. I was disappointed in myself. Why did I let myself get this way. I had enough, something needs to be done. It was the start of my journey to a new me,eat healthier and start exercising. No more sodas!! I told myself, no more potato chips (one of my favorite foods) and start eating smaller portions.
So I started to walk every other day at the park. Watched the portions of food and stopped drinking sodas and drank lots of water. It was working, lost weight got down to 170. I was proud of myself for controlling what I ate.
My weight started to plateau. This is not the weight I set for myself. I wanted to get down to 155 lbs. That is about the weight I imagined I should be at for my height 5'8".
But life was changing. Husband graduated from college with an EMBA (Executive Master of Business Administration). He found a job in another state, so we were going to be moving. Oldest son was applying for college, and I was not working at the time. So I didn't pay any attention to why my weight was not going down. Just tried to keep doing what I was doing.
It is now June 2011. Oldest son graduated high school and we moved from Kentucky to Texas. But when oldest son left for college things got out of hand. I no longer was paying close attention to what was going into the mouth and pounds packed on again. By December 2011 I was back up to 193 lbs. The weight came on fast, I must have lost some muscle weight before. So started to walk again and went to the library and checked out this great book The Body Fat Solution by Tom Venuto. It helped me find myself and the desire to want to eat healthy and be healthy. Started myself on a routine of strength training and cardio workout.
I kept looking to better myself and in February 2012 I found SparkPeople. This is what I need to help me on my journey to a new me.

Well It worked up until June of 2012. I was almost at my target weight and something happened and I just went backwards and lost control of my eating habits and gained weight again. It is now January 2013 and I weight 179 lbs. I will do this again. I will need to find what makes me break down and learn to control the emotions.

Thank you for your comment on my page. I never thought that it may be the start of menopause but now you've got me thinking. :) I will have to track it but currently have my cycle and I will turn 40 in July. My mother passed away at 50 of a heart attack but I know she was going through menopause but not sure where she was at with it. I remember way before her passing that she had hot flashes and I'm pretty sure she was taking medication but just not sure when she started or when the symptoms started. I should talk to my doctor also :) I go to the same doctor my mother went to maybe he could tell me since I'm not sure my dad would remember. Thank you again for giving me the idea since I never would have guessed that might be the problem!!! Plus I'm glad to know that I'm not going crazy!!! :)

Hi Brenda,
Thank you for the welcome! I added you as a friend to my page-not sure how all this works but I enjoy conversing with others who are finding their way in this weight loss journey! :) I hope that we could encourage and support one another?!
