Learning to fly

I thought I would finally change the text on this page, after nearly a year and a half. A lot has changed.

I have struggled with weight issues my entire adult life, especially since leaving college and settling into life at a desk. I finally started getting concerned after turning 40 (and as I kept gaining weight) when my doctor started raising blood pressure issues. I was struggling with GERD (or something similar) as well, and finally decided it was time to do something.

Someone suggested Spark People so I signed up, I really like the way the entire experience is geared toward being positive and supportive. I need that.

Since starting SP in April of 2010 I've lost 70 pounds and gained a lot of my health back. I'm running four or five days a week and lifting weights and looking for other activities. I've changed my diet almost entirely and made other changes as well. But I still have a way to go.

HI!

It's been a long time since I said that, or anything! I dropped out of SP for about a year. The consequences were disastrous!!! I went from that 127 to 140!!! It happened slowly at 1st then quickly after 135. I hate everything about the way I look. Plus I'm older now too!!! UGH! Guys are so lucky they don't have all those nit picky details! Anyway, I'm making my way back slowly. I have been working out since Jan. 15th with no results. I know my cardio is lacking cuz my treadmill is out of commission & I always hated running anyway!!! YUCK! I am no longer obsessed with the #'s on the scale! I just want to be able to fit into my clothes agin without stuff bubbling over everywhere! HAHA!

Look for emoticon ward to hearing from you and what's been going on with you!

How frustrating! My GPS on my phone seems to work okay but clearly starting it early is a problem. And I don't seem to find the motivation to run without some sort of "plan" I'm sticking to.

I'm realizing that I may not get to the point where I'm running the speeds I should, and if so...then I just do the plan again until I do!

I hear ya! I TRY to get in that frame of mind when I get stuck. I look at is a practice for when I DO get there. It doesn't mean I'm going to maintain 120. I would just like to get there once & then bounce between there & 125 ya know? I think women get more caught up in the whole #'s on the scale thing than guys do. Am I wrong? My DH NEVER has to worry about being fat. I HATE THAT! He can eat whatever he wants and never gains an ounce!!! I think the biggest I've ever seen him is about 180 & he's 6'2" and that wasn't for long!!! He always weighs 173. UGH! He eats to live though. Like, he can open a bag of Doritos & eat about a quarter of what I would want if I get started. I live to eat!!!! emoticon

It's warm and rainy here. We have had some of the cold wet rain already too though. YUCK! That is really hard to deal with. We usually don't get snow I've only seen it 3 or 4 times. I wont go out if I can help it when it gets too cold. I have to go next door to feed my fish every morning & night & THAT is far enough, about 40 yds. I run in that house on my treadmill too so, when I go to do that I try to only my the back & fourth once. I don't know how people can run when it's below zero and stuff. I would die!

Hey there,
Did you notice we have the same # of pounds to lose?! I was 127.2 at weigh-in today. My goal is 120. I can't get rid of these last few! I am trying so hard. I know my diet is to blame cuz I have very little self control! emoticon emoticon But, one good thing has happened in the past about 2 & a half years. But mostly just since Thanksgiving. I learned that I FEEL better at a lower weight but more importantly When I slack on exercise I LOOK different and my clothes fit difffernt even at the same weight. I am happy at 126-124. 128 is pushin' it now. Where it used to be 135-140. It just yanks my chain that The elusive 120 is RIGHT THERE but I can't seem to get there! I KNOW I have the 4 pounds to spare. I mean I can still grab "stuff" on my tummy at 124! emoticon . Yeah, some is extra skin but NOT 4 pounds worth!!!! HAHAHA!

So, what did you do today? I've done NOTHING YET!!! I need to get away from here and off my butt! I had a good weigh-in today and don't want to go up again right now. This week I have been having a good day every other day as far as the scale goes. Like yesterday I was up & I said to myself oh, tomorrow I'll be down again and I was. I even messed up again after I was supposed to go to sleep! THAT is a BAD HABIT, nothing more. When I do that I am NOT hungry. At least I ate and egg in there somewhere! LOL! emoticon
