This mom's back... and she's got running goals to achieve!

Since joining Spark in 2008, I've worked hard to reestablish the active lifestyle and healthy eating habits that I grew up with but had moved away from after moving out of the house, going to college, and getting married. In the process, I lost 30 pounds and successfully maintained that loss for over 2 years.

Since joining Spark in 2008, I've worked hard to reestablish the active lifestyle and healthy eating habits that I grew up with but had moved away from after moving out of the house, going to college, and getting married. In the process, I lost 30 pounds and successfully maintained that loss for over 2 years.

In 2010, I started a long Spark hiatus. Starting a new (more demanding) position at work, returning to school to earn a master's degree, and getting pregnant with our first child (born April 2011) took up much of the time I'd had to be online. Since then, I've had yet another kid (born October 2013), which makes me a mom of TWO! Healthy living has remained a huge priority in my life, but I've used a different set of goals and tools to keep myself on track. My weight has remained healthy (although higher than pre-pregnancy) throughout both pregnancies and breastfeeding.

I've identified as a runner for pretty much as long as I can remember, so it was only natural that getting back on the healthy living bandwagon also involved getting back on the running bandwagon. I'd always wanted to run a marathon, and on 3 May 2009, I accomplished that goal, finishing in 3:49:13. A year later, I achieved another goal - a Boston Qualifier - with a 3:36:52. Unfortunately, I never did get to run that Boston marathon...

I'm slower these days than at my pre-pregnancy running peak, but I continue to race marathons and half marathons (even while pregnant!). In the future I may just have to up the ante and run some longer races... or get back to being fast again!

I'm looking at some pretty big running goals in the near future and I'm hoping Spark people can once again help me with the accountability needed to achieve these.

That's too funny!! I use the same avatar pic almost everywhere but I alternate between 2 screen names. I don't think I've been noticed in multiple places before!!

Thanks for all of your well wishes and support on my blog.

I am trying to stay positive--it is not always easy, but I figure I never question the blessings God has given me, so I won't question this hard situation. Besides, what would being bitter accomplish? I am already sick--I don't need to be sick AND bitter too!

Needless to say a situation like this provides a great deal of clarity as to what truly is important in one's life. I am truly blessed with a great family, a strong church, friends, co-workers and a wonderful support system here on spark that includes you and so many others. With all of you behind me how can I lose?

Keep the faith and kill the virus! (my new mantra-lol)
