The Biggest Journey

I'm a 59 year old woman who is finally and forever done with unhealthy habits. I've lost probably over 1,000 pounds in my life on every diet plan imaginable and it took me until now to realize I have to do this for myself, with myself and by myself and figure out what works for me. I guess I'm a slow learner, but better late than never and this time it will stick. I need to lose a person and I know it will take some time, but this time I'll learn what I need to know to make success last ...

My Goals:
When I started I had over 100 pounds to lose which at my age takes a long time. I've lost 28 in about 2 1/2 months and am inspired to kick it up a notch and keep it going.

My Program:
Eating lots of produce, eating virtually no convenience (chemical-laden) or fast foods, adding more daily activity to my life. I'm tracking my caloric expenditures with a Bodymedia Fit arm band.

Personal Information:
We live in Parish, NY and have a summer place in Clayton, NY in the 1000 islands. I'm tired of snow and cold and look forward to moving to a warmer climate when I retire in a few years.

Other Information:
I used to train and compete in dog agility before work got in the way. That helped to keep me active in spite of my weight but now my dogs are all old and past their competition years. I got my marine captain's license a few years ago and we enjoy our boat on the St. Lawrence River all summer.

"One of the most difficult parts of changing how you live and how you eat is believing that change is possible.
We all say we believe that, but many of us, deep down in our hearts believe that it's possible for other people, but not for us.
That other people can do it, that the glowy warm life we imagine is for other people, not for us.
We have an unconscious belief that we can't do it, it's hopeless, and so, on some level, we stop making an effort.
We lapse into the way it always was or is. But change really is possible.
And it really does take a fierce kind of longing, and a fierce kind of love for yourself.
For the life you know is possible. Ask yourself what you love most of all.
Do you love your life? And are you willing to take action on your own behalf?"

“In terms of days and moments lived, you’ll never again be as young as you are right now, so spend this day, the youth of your future, in a way that deflects regret. Invest in yourself. Have some fun. Do something important. Love somebody extra. In one sense, you’re just a kid, but a kid with enough years on her to know that every day is priceless."
