Numbers and How to Let Them Motivate
Itís time to face the numbers. Iíve been dodging numbers for about 10 years now. Hi, I am Theresa and my first number is 53. That is how old I am. A number that I have allowed to make excuses for myself and the struggle I am having with my other numbers. Those other numbers would be my weight (highest has been 225. Started SP at 219) My cholesterol (last reading was 299) And my blood pressure. I have been hospitalized with it being as high as 216/165. I am currently maxed out on what BP meds ...
I am currently maxed out on what BP meds they can give me. The doctor told me flat out that the meds can only do so much. I need to do my part and that would be losing some weight. So here I amÖat SparkPeople.
When I married my dear husband 11 years ago I was a size 8. A single digit. A number that represents a shape to strive for. You knowÖ.a waist. Iím not sure what happened between that wonderful day at the altar and today. I have had a few surgeries that were setbacks. Iíve had some emotionally trying times with losses and stress. But I guess what happened is the way I chose to respond to each of these situations. I ate more and moved less. End of story.
Understanding my accountability is going to be key in my ďrecoveryĒ. I am how I got to this place and I am how I am going to get out of it. So, I have joined SP. I have a treadmill ordered and on its way. I have a weight bench and some hand weights. This is my home gym. I will supplement it with a few DVDís and Wi Fit. That is the movement part.
I have bought a number of healthy living (low-fat/low-salt/low-cal) cookbooks, and have packed the old ones away. I have changed the way I shop for groceries. This means LOTS of label reading. I understand my weakness for laziness and have been taking steps to improve upon that. One of the main ones is when preparing healthy meals I now make twice what I would need so I can freeze one for those days when I donít want to cook. Iíve also made healthy muffins to freeze for those times I have to have a snack. Better options will help keep me from derailing.
Those are my first steps. Now, I have to keep building on those steps just like I am looking to increase the steps I take each day physically. Those numbers are not going to end me. I have too many other untold number of reasons to stay healthy. Top on the list is my family. I want to be healthy for me and them. I want to be around a bit longer.
So, here is to all the numbers that are positive. Let those be my driving force.

Have cut WAY back on sodium and fat. More whole foods. Working a gradual plan to get to vegetarian or vegan.
Primary work outs are the treadmill and strength training. This will be supplemented with various workout DVD's, zumba, etc.
Grew up in Wisconsin which means I grew up with lots of food. Especially those dairy rich types. Lived in PA for 12 years and then recently moved to Alabama. The south with all its fried foods. Wow.
A mom to four wonderful children who are all grown and on their own. I'm feeling the empty nest terribly. Praying for grandbabies in my future.
Married to a wonderful man who helps me feel worthy on those days I start to feel not so much so.
I'm a strong Christian and patriot. Yes, I love God and country. I love to crochet, cross-stitch and garden. Oh, and I am a voracious reader.
