The Incredible Shrinking Geezer

Having passed three score and ten I think that I have earned the the geezer label. I little self-derision might make me more humble. A little more humility probably does no one harm.

Weight control had never been a big challenge for me until, about seven years ago, latent MS diminished my balance and impaired leg motion. I have become a very careful walker (slow) and walked much less that had been my habit.

Weight control had never been a big challenge for me until, about seven years ago, latent MS diminished my balance and impaired leg motion. I have become a very careful walker (slow) and walked much less that had been my habit.

As the result of these changes I gradually ballooned to 205 (a lifetime high) at my 2009 year end checkup with my cardiologist.

Reducing intake of fuel (food) to the degree that previously worked for me was insufficient. Enter SparkPeople nutrition tracking and consistent weight measurement . This year end on the same scales I had managed to shed 30 pounds to a svelte 175.

My goal of reaching a waist measure of one half my height (a Dr. Oz guideline) should be reached by dropping another 5 or 6 pounds. My fitness goal is to develop a cardio and strength routine that fits, even challenges, my current physical abilities. I am glad to be part of the SparkPeople to encourage and to be encouraged.

Thank you for the birthday goodie. I usually spend all month celebrating my birthday so you weren't late. LOL. You have done so well with your weight loss and health goals. Congratulations on that success.

I'm hoping that generalised fog will lift today so that I can go up Table Mountain - the cable car ride is free for South African residents on their birthday :D

You're right! Grandparenthood is awesome, and I pray to live long enough for great-grandparenthood too! And yeah, I'm a bit of a RAH RAH too. I'm hopeful to continue shrinking just like you!
