As a mom of 5 (13, 9, 6, 4 yo twins) I am privileged to stay home, as well as home school our kids. My husband is amazing and totally supports me! We are making this journey as a family!

I have made this journey before. After our first daughter, I got back in shape fast. By 6 months, I was smaller and weighed less than before I got pregnant.

After our second daughter, well, it was definitely harder to get workouts in, so gradually gained weight. The decision was made one day when a good friend sent me a picture of myself saying that he thought it was such a nice picture I would want to have it. In fact, it was used in a print pamphlet for a company. When I looked at it, I was horrified! First, I couldn't believe what I was seeing- that THAT was actually me and my second thought was, "NICE picture? you have got to be kidding!" So... another journey began and I was excited. I joined a gym which was easy with only 2 kids- I just found one with child care! In less than a year, I lost over 70lbs. and felt great!

Then, we received an amazing surprise... daughter number 3! I was determined that I wouldn't end the same way I did after number 2. However, my body didn't agree. I was in constant pain. I pretty much lived in my chiropractor's office because I had constant migraines, hips going "out", ribs going "out" and just lots of problems. Later, I found out it was because she was breech! So... after she was born, I knew I had a long road ahead of me again. I couldn't even walk though. I started seeing a physiotherapist to help me out! Literally, my first workout was 5 minutes on the elliptical and my body was exhausted! But, I was determined! That was March, by May, I started a couch to Sprint triathlon training program (with my physio's blessing and help) and end of August, I swam, biked and ran my first Sprint tri! I loved it! I found that I didn't lose as much weight as I wanted to- only about 40lbs.. Now I know that it was probably due to all the cardio and not enough ST. But, I kept working and had already set more goals and tri races for the next summer. I even started training for a half marathon!

Then... twins??? what? really? ok... we had decided that we wanted a fourth, but 4 AND 5? What blessings!! but also big time change! I wasn't allowed to do anything other than swimming after I found out at 10 weeks, so full stop on most of my exercise! Over the next few months would prove to be very stressful and exciting... buying our first house, renovating and moving in, being on bed rest, dealing with Uveitis with our oldest daughter... then our blessings came! Because of some complications, I had to have an emergency double c section (ie. 2 incisions) and because the babes were early, they were in hospital for 2 weeks. Then... life with 5 kids, new twins, and home schooling! CRAZY!! Actually, crazy is our norm :)

Well, bring us to Christmas 2009. Our babes are now 1 and I'm feeling that workout itch... what can I do? I feel like it's time... so, January 18, 2010, I started this journey towards health and fitness once again. This time, I'm even more excited, because it will be my last! This journey is NOT just about me though, it's about my family and helping, encouraging and inspiring others!!

UPDATE: January 2013 and it was not my last. Journeys don't ever end and that was a flaw in my thinking. I have learned over the last year to enjoy my journey. With that, I am somewhat starting a new journey and very excited! Join me in enjoying our journeys together!

My Goals:
* eat clean (switch my family to more clean eating)

* drink min. 2L water a day

* take my supplements

* get more sleep

* get back to tracking my food here again

* read up on carb cycling and start

* lose min. 10lbs. and definitely more fat!

* workout 6 days a week... cardio 5-6 days with min. 3 for ST (get in double workouts)

* figure out a good ST program for me

* get back to the pool

* continue to lengthen my long runs

* get my bike trainer set up

* be a great example to my kids to inspire them

* always learn more

* constantly change my program! ... love HIIT, CrossFit and now Tabata!
