I've had my "Ahaaa" moment and after an adult lifetime of weight struggles I'm ready to move forward and get healthy for me! 2011 is my year!! :)

HISTORY ABOUT ME:
When I was young and growing up I was always thin and active. Weight was never an issue though as young as 10 I thought I needed to lose weight. As long as I can remember my mom was ALWAYS on a diet. I grew up with learning a lot about diets and nutrition. When I turned 15 I developed an ED (bulimia). I believe this was the beginning of some horrible habits and ways to use and control food. I have ping ponged back and forth between binging and purging and just binging my whole adult life. Because of that I have really ruined what it feels like to eat normal. I began to gain weight when I went away to college. There I put on the freshman 15. From that point forward...as a young adult my cycles of binging and lack of control with food put me on track for more weight gain. I have had some significant weight loss success only to regain. I have control and perfectionism issues and because of that I find it very difficult to make changes and try to lose weight. I tend to get to obsessive about it and have an all or nothing mentality which sets me up for failure. I still believe though that I can change my thinking and how I deal with food. I BELIEVE IN ME! (On a side note...I have had years of therapy for me ED issues...I'm a work in progress.)

My hope is to have more accountability by being an active member on Spark. Support is key for me. Not feeling alone in my struggles. My sweet husband has joined Spark as well so I have his support. In 2009 I lost 60 lbs. I lost it due to extreme stress so it wasn't a healthy loss and I ended up gaining it all back. During that time though I remember how good it felt to be a little thinner. I am clinging to that memory right now. The beginning of weight loss and health changes are always the hardest for me so right now I'm struggling...but never giving up!

My Goals:
WEIGHT LOSS GOALS
Short-term | Lose 10 lbs by Valentines Day.
Long-term | Lose 130 lbs

FITNESS GOALS
Short-term | 15 min cardio 5 days a week along with some toning exercises.

Long-term | Reach a level of fitness where I can backpack gear into Hidden Lake for an overnight hiking/camping trip.

JUST FOR ME
-Be thankful for the day and the moments it's made up of.
-Do something for myself...take care of me.
-Put things in perspective and try not to expect everything to be perfect.


My Program:
At first I am trying hard to track my intake of calories and water. I almost have to go through a withdrawal phase before I feel good, so the first part is a struggle for me. I also am trying to add 15 min of cardio and some strength exercises in 5 days a week. I'm not much into "organized" exercise so this is a challenge and also why I'm keeping it pretty light for the first little while.

As for my other goals...I need to work on my stress levels and perfectionism. Appreciate life and be more laid back. To do this I am mostly using mindfulness.

My name is Tonya and I live in northern Utah. I'm a transplant here and am origionally from northwest Montana.

I have a sweet, loving husband and together we have 5 children...(2 mine, 3 his) My daughter is 17 and a senior in high school this year and my son is 13 and in the 8th grade.

    I think I had the same ahaa moment as well. I think mine came with the turn of the new year as well, and on top of it, turning 40 this year. I hope we can do this together!
