I'm 24 years old and just completed my credential courses.

I have always struggled with my weight. I was a chubby kid and that kept up with me as I grew up. Through high school I averaged around 160 lbs. I thought I was gargantuan!

When I got to college, I experienced my first major weight loss, but it was not a healthy loss. I absolutely hated the food that they served in our dining hall, so many days would pass where all I would eat was a granola bar. I quickly dropped about 30 lbs. I loved my skinny body, but I knew the way I was eating was not healthy for me.

I came home for the summer after freshman year and succeeded in putting a few pounds on, my dad is amazing in the kitchen! My sophomore year, I moved to a condo with 4 friends and I was able to cook anything I wanted. Again, I succeeded in putting on a few more pounds.

My junior year of college was when the pounds really started to pack back on. The summer before I moved back, I had met a boy and started a relationship. Problem was that he was working in Maryland! I drowned my sorrows in my food for quite a while. I also had a new roommate who was very unhealthy and sucked me into her unhealthy eating habits. We would go out to eat daily. I quickly packed on everything I had lost my freshman year.

I graduated around 165 lbs and moved home. I started dieting and joined a gym to find that I was not losing any weight. I also was not gaining any. As I threw myself into work, the gym fell by the wayside. After a year of working, I decided that I did want to get my teaching credential, so I applied to a bunch of schools and got accepted to a program. This program had me in the classroom four days a week with classes two nights a week. As I went through this program and ate out two nights a week and ate treats the other teachers would bring I quickly packed on another 10-15 lbs. One day I stepped on the scale and saw 180 lbs. I was absolutely mortified and started crying. I decided then and there it was time to change my habits. In my last summer course, I fellow teacher told me about spark and I went home and checked it out. And here I am now!

My Goals:
I like to start with small goals. So, for now, my goals stand as follows:

1) Go for a 10 min walk once a day.
2) Drink 8 glasses of water a day.
3) Get back into swing and latin dancing.

I suppose #3 might be more of a long term goal, but I'll start with these and add as I conquer these goals and begin to add new ones.

    I saw your entry on Teachers to Lose team and thought I would offer a shoulder if you ever need it. I love teaching children with Autism and have a TEACCH certification, working on ABA certification, and have attended play project and SCERTS model training along with Boardmaker and other speech and OT sensory programs. I love talking to other teachers to get ideas and give each other encouragement!
