Keep it down in there!!!

I lost 40 pounds in my early 20's and managed to keep it off until now. At 39 years old and counting, I'm starting to gain it back despite an extremely active lifestyle. I decided to see if using this site as a tool to track my food and activity could help me maintain my ideal weight.

My Goals:
I don't believe in scales, but I do believe that when my clothes feels like it fits right and my fitness level suits my lifestyle, I'll know that I've gotten back to where I need to be.

I have exercise induced asthma and as a stubborn Scorpio, one of my main goals is to continue increasing my lung capacity so the asthma becomes less of an issue.

My Program:
I am taking the usual steps of eating less and exercising more, but I'm also experimenting with different levels of protein and carbohydrate to figure out where athletic performance and weight management balance out.

On average I spend 3-5 days a week at the gym doing cardio and weights, and try to get at least 3 outdoor workouts (usually bike rides or snowshoeing depending on the conditions) a week as well, but I'll always take more if I can get it.

Personal Information:
I live on the east coast of Canada. Mountain biking is my life - I've been doing it for 19 years both recreationally and competitively. I run a woman's mountain bike club and coach mountain biking and map and compass wilderness navigation. If I'm not riding I take the opportunity to do anything else outside including road riding, hiking, backpacking, canoeing, camping, xc skiing, snowshoeing, orienteering, trail building, and adventure racing. I'm a photographer and writer by trade, but my creative side is at it's finest in the kitchen. That is both a curse and a blessing. It's a little too easy to whip up batch of something really decadent on a whim. D'oh!

Other Information:
Dogs are a great motivational tool for exercise. I chose high-energy beasts as my canine companions and on days when I really don't feel like moving my butt I have to anyway because without their exercise, Gryphon and Hunter are unbearable! Fortunately they both love mountain biking, hiking, xc skiing and snowshoeing just as much as me.
