I've lost and regained thousands of pounds over the years, including 100 lb. twice and 180 lb. one time (that one nearly killed me as it was too drastic). I'm a stress eater and raising kids and later being the sole caregiver for my mother were stressers (excuses) that I used to not take care of myself. When I was 22 years old (and thin) I had a bad fall which damaged both my knees. Over the years, that restricted my exercise and now my degenerative arthritis and the added weight has totally destroyed the joints. But at my current weight I'm not a candidate for knee replacement surgery, so I just sit and keep hurting. But NO MORE! My kids are grown and my mother died a year ago. After grieving most of the past year, I'm coming back to the person I was meant to be. Mom never gave up in spite of her own health limitations, and I'm not giving up either. This is my time to get the weight off once and for all and get healthy. I may not be able to walk or do much exercise today, but I can start with what I AM able to do and build on that. My husband is very supportive and will prepare his own meals or eat what I eat. I was in to see my doctor last week and she gave me the go-ahead to get started. So this week I'm getting rid of the processed foods that will tempt me and stocking up on healthy foods. I'm going to start drinking more water, move a bit more each day and start recording my food intake and exercise daily. And I'll be reading blogs from others who are on the same path to keep my motivation and inspiration high.

My Goals:
My immediate goal this summer is to lose another 50 lb. and get back in the habit of exercising in the pool each day. I'd like to build up so I can walk again without my cane.


My Program:
I'd lost 30 lb. before coming to SP. Now I'm using the Optifast program to lose the next 50 lb., then I'll switch to healthy portion-control meals to continue losing. If I get stuck on a plateau I may return to Optifast to get another 50 off, etc. until I'm at a comfortable weight. My exercise is limited as I'm mobility impaired and had several serious injuries in a fall last October. It's limited, but not impossible, so I do what I can and try to do more each day.



Personal Information:
I'm retired and married 33 years. My husband and I relocated to the desert nearly 7 years ago. I love the warmth all year and could never return to snow country. Our kids are grown and live a few hours away, so we see them on holidays. No pets, no plants, no responsibilities. Just free to come and go as we please and take care of ourselves.


Other Information:
My current passion is learning to play bridge well. We play contract bridge (party bridge) two days a week and it's very challenging. I enjoy giving my brain a workout with the game, as well as the social contact with our friends. Until I get a firm grip on the diet thing, I'm avoiding other social events as they all involve food, which I find tempting--and our friends are a bunch of good cooks.
