Thank you so much HOPE2BE. I just joined this morning but plan to check out the page this evening. I had to stop Curves because my knee was so sore. It turns out I have patellar tendonitis and degenerative joint disease in both knees, left worse than right. So I have been following with Sports Medicine and figure they will get me back to function first. Things are slowly getting better. I bought myself kettelbells for xmas and started using those. Gosh am I out of shape. Also I got a treadmill with Google Maps and will be able to walk when I want to. This has always helped in the past. Now I can walk anywhere in the world. I am trying to lose weight to take care of my knees. I had my physical and have normal cholesterol for the first time in over 20 yrs. No meds just changing myself and being more active. My only advice from my doctor was to lose weight. Normal blood sugar etc. So I am hoping to find some advice that will help the old knees.

So I am still going to Curves and have been trying to eat more natural foods and less processed foods. I have been doing pretty well at that with a few slip ups. I also joined the 5K challenge yesterday because I would really like to start running. (Never really thought I would say those words and mean them.) I have been doing good with my weight. Made it into another set of 10 pound measures, I am now in the 250's. Back when I joined Sparkpeople I weighed 289 lbs and I am now 259 lbs. I find this to be a major accomplishment. I have lost lots of inches also. I also have more strength and stamina than I used to. I also have felt more like taking care of myself in lots of ways than I used to. I now can see how I kind of gave up for a number of years instead of living life. No more of that.

Well I am still going to Curves consistently. At least 3 days a week except for the 2 weeks I was sick and in the hospital. I have lost a little over 7 inches so far. I have also been making better food choices. My knees are still killing me but until I get more weight off I don't think I am going to be able to make much of a difference there. I am fitting into my clothes much better and am able to finally tie my shoes without grunting from bending over. My energy and overall strength are improving and I am out of breath less than before starting this. I am very happy with myself at this point which is a big improvement over recent years.

Decided to take Sparkpeople up on its offer for a free week at Curves. I used to go there a long time ago but stopped for several other reasons. I had been thinking about it again so I took the plunge 11/22. I have been consistently going. I am actually scheduling my workouts. This is something I have never done before but it is necessary because all of my kids are working now and that means that the grandsons need to be watched. I am doing a lot of that watching but it has been okay so far. I am seeing results. Wearing some clothes that were just uncomfortable before so I stopped. I also took a class at work the other day and actually fit into the seat which last time I sat in it was uncomfortable because my hips hit the metal frame. So this 3 hrs was not bad. I also have had less knee and ankle/foot pain. It amazes me that I sat at home waiting for these to improve and it just needed for me to use them. It has been an amazing month and I am looking forward to many more months like that. For the first time in a long time I am feeling much more positive.
