Me and my babies
I'm a 53 yr old Christian wife and mother, married to my sweetheart for 31 years. My children are 29, 26, 24, 20, and 15. I homeschooled them all, have graduated the older 4, and have one more to go. I currently have 3 boys in the house - my husband,, a 21 yr old friend, and my 15 year old son. They all like to EAT, I like to cook & bake. Makes them very happy , but I have to be careful, because I love food, but it sticks to me like glue. They are all athletes and can't get enough ...

Happy New Year and congrats on taking the first step to reaching a healthier you! I'm glad you're getting active with SparkPeople - it's a great community, wonderful resources and fantastic support.
In my experience, SparkPeople is like a in some ways - it's lots of fun and easy to make friends because we're all in this together. I like the way a HEALTHY LIFESTYLE is emphasized instead of a 'quick fix wonder diet' - it's about waaaaaay more than 'just' losing weight so you have definitely come to the right place!
If you ever need any help using features of the site, there are tutorial videos under the HELP section that can show you how to use the features of the site. You can also find them on the START page and several other places on the site.
If you haven't discovered The Spark book and/or the SparkDiet linked at the bottom of the START page, check them out - the program is simple but extremely effective. There is a TON of information on this site - so much it might even seem overwhelming but fortunately we don't have to 'digest' everything at once! The FastBreak program is a good way to start.
Another nice thing about SparkPeople is that we have permission to be human - we don't have to change everything at once or be in a hurry to reach our goals. Take a few baby steps and then a few more and before you know it, you'll have completed a long journey - I hope you enjoy this community as much as I do - it teaches us how to make positive lifetime changes because that's the only thing that will work over time!

Saw your post on the homeschool group. You are where I was at 2 years ago - 220. It was exercise that made a huge difference. And all those pains? Well, it is amazing how much less pain I have after losing some weight! It takes quite a toll on our bodies. So, just do something 5+ days a week, even if it is just 10 minutes. That is where I started. I made a square on a chalk board and kept changing the number to reflect the number of days I exercised in a row. Then I added another box with the amount of weight I lost and saw both those numbers grow.
I have been stagnant the last year, but I am going to meet my goal weight this year - before I turn 50! I know I will feel so much better.
Looking forward to seeing you reach your goals.
