I am a schoolteacher, wife, mother and grandmother. I have been battling my weight in one form or another since I was 14 years old. In the past, I could always loose weight; I just didn't keep it off. Now I even struggle to loose it. I don't want to be this way any more. I want to be healthy, but I know I can't do it on my own.

Welcome to Spark People. Your story sounds all too familiar. Overweight, loose it, find it, and it gets more difficult to loose as we get older. I had pretty much given up and then signed up for a 3 month gym membership. I learned that the slow metabolism could truly be kick started with exercise and got motivated. With a balance of exercise and healthy eating I have experienced more success than I expected. Remember I had virtually given up. The tools available at Spark People help to keep me on track. Tracking some goals, using the nutrition tracker and exercise trackers have kept me accountable. I have been so encouraged by the many people who are willing to share their success stories. Hope you quickly find your place here and experience success in your desire to live a healthier life style. Welcome.

emoticon to SP and the Keep It Simple team!
Congrats on taking the next step to reaching a healthier you by getting active with SparkPeople - it's a great community, wonderful resources and fantastic support.
The key is perseverance and consistency-take it one day at a time and you will see results! It will be hard at times, but just keep at it, you will win this battle!
I Have been with SP for almost 2 years and still going strong! It really helps!
If you haven't already discovered the SparkDiet linked at the top of the START page, check it out - the program is simple but extremely effective. There is a TON of information on this site - so much it might even seem overwhelming but fortunately we don't have to 'digest' everything at once! The FastBreak program is a good way to start.
Good luck!! emoticon emoticon

I am relatively new too this too...
There are some great suggestions in the message from Ragamuffinkel.
Try not to do too much at once, set small goals, like tracking your food and water -the good and not so good. as the weeks go by add more things. One of the things I added is recording the times I eat in the note section - I have a feeling when it gets tougher I will find that information valuable.
