We Are So Doing This Together!
CREATE YOUR OWN CULTURE OF HEALTH I am looking to untie "sedentary knots" and promote a "culture of activity and exercise" within our mature household. You can create your very own culture around all that is healthy. Talk it, eat it, read it, watch it on television, gift it and do it! BIRDS OF THE SAME FEATHER FLOCK TOGETHER! By immersing ourselves as much as possible in healthy activities and being with those who have similar lifestyles and goals, it will make things much easier for us. Achieving weight loss is completely foreign to me because I was thin all during the first part of my life. We can share our best practices and cheer one another on in our new lifestyles for a more healthy, active and vibrant online community. This is social media at its best! Go Teams: Yoga Lovers, Dog Lovers, Charleston Sparkers, Fun-Loving People Over 60 and those who have joined the Official Better Sleep Challenge!!! ACCOUNTABILITY It is hard for me to hold myself accountable. I feel sorry for myself because of a hard day and will indulge in food that comforts or take a nap instead of exercising. Snacking in the evening is my downfall! COURAGE Yesterday, I resumed my yoga practice and walked into a class full of strangers by myself. It's been at least 7 or 8 years since I have taken a yoga class. Yes, I was breathing in when they were breathing out, up when they were down and nearly teetered over a couple of times. But, I did it! It will come but it is going to take some work to get my yoga practice back. Laugh at yourself and congratulate yourself when you do something adventurous like this! I WAS THE WORLD'S WORST WHEN IT CAME TO EXERCISE!! THERE WAS NO DESIRE WHATSOEVER! ACCENTUATE THE POSITIVE! Family health problems and serious personal health issues isolated me at times. Depression made it worse. The stress was tremendous. Just getting through a bad day was exhausting and debilitating. I finally took the first step and I have to take it every day towards living well. BABY STEPS AND RYTHM Don't be overwhelmed by the whole picture. Do what you can every single day and build upon it SLOWLY. There will be days when exercise is hard, unenjoyable and goals seem too far away to even matter. That's normal. Do what you can on these days. Don't make excuses. It will give you a sense of accomplishment and security plus it won't be difficult to return to your workout program the next day. Keep the rhythm going! GET CHECKED OUT & CHECK IT OUT Before beginning any program make sure to get your doctor's blessing and/or a prescription for PT if you need it for that nagging back pain you have had for years. Some PT offices are located in athletic clubs. This is a plus because they can actually train you safely on the equipment for the next step up. DON'T SUFFER FROM DE AGONY OF DE FEET! Invest your money in a really, really good pair of athletic shoes. Go to a competent sports store where they videotape your walk on a treadmill and fit you accordingly. If your feet pronate, turn in or out, you will need some comfy orthotics in your shoes. Otherwise, you might have a repetitive motion injury to the foot, ankle, leg or hip and suffer a setback. There are also special ways to lace them for a custom fit depending upon your foot; your salesperson can show you. Buy a pair of good athletic socks, too, while you are at it. Note the content and check out some of the discount stores for similar, cheaper socks. You don't want blisters or Athlete's Foot from cotton socks. The socks should fit smoothly like a second skin with no wrinkles or bunching up. HAVE A CREED I believe that I can do some type of exercise every single day. I am living this way NOW! My motto is to dressout for activity, be counted as present and do it with joy! WE ARE WORTH IT AND DESERVE TO LIVE A HAPPY, HEALTHY LIFE! 8 pounds are gone. I have made new friends. My back doesn't hurt as much from the belly weight. Now, it's your turn to inspire others including me!
