This is my new favorite quote!

Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could; some blunders and absurdities have crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; you shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense. ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

Congrats on meeting your goal! We do a daily check in on the maintainers team that really helps keep me accountable. Sometimes I think that maintaining is harder. You don't get the gratification of seeing the numbers come down, but you still have to work!

hey Bella!
I'm going to respond to your vein question here, so that the thread can stay on Trish's topic of DE!

Anyways, you've got to be careful who you go to.

Here's my story:
I had my lesser saphenous vein in the calf removed and the upper part of it closed off at the groin and knee. The surgeon never removed that portion. This is considered an experimental technique and it never should have been done this way. Reason being that this section of vein is NOT going to disappear.. it should have been removed. And here's why...Its got other veins connected to it... and two dead ends one at the knee the other at my groin. This allows for stagnation of blood, clot formation.

My surgeon was originally a heart surgeon, he explained that this section of vein he left behind is what heart surgeons use for heart repair in the event of a coronary bypass and that's why he was leaving it behind. His thinking was wrong in retrospect on two counts.1!. The reason I just mentioned... it puts me at risk for clots that can now travel to my brain, heart or lungs and cause me to stroke out. 2. Any vein that isn't toned enuf to carry blood back to the heart, that's not carried blood for years due to being closed off, its not a good candidate for replacing a coronary artery.

Additionally, when he tied off and glued my sutures shut on my calf, he left one open. I was under gauze, so I couldn't see what was happening. But my whole calf started to swell and the pain become unbearable. I was infected with MRSA, he'd never closed the wound. I now have a huge blue bruise like thing at the site, an indentation in my calf muscle where it was eaten away, and my either left inner ankle is blue and red with tiny veins. In short I traded one ropey vein, for a host of more serious problems.

He also told me to pay my deductible upfront, told me that would cover everything, that he'd pay both the clinic and the anesthesiologist. HE then proceeded to file his paperwork with my insurance company last.. Meaning that the clinic and anesthesiologist where eligible for the $2500 deductible and would not receive anything from my insurance company. .. leaving me to cover both expenses. Under these circumstances, the doctor should have reimbursed my $2500. But he kept it, and got paid a second time for the surgery by the insurance company, leaving me to deal with the clinic and anesthesiologist.

When I went to see him, he told me he'd have to open me back up and purge the infection from my legs. At that point, I didn't want him to touch me. I also looked at his hands when he wrote something down and realized he had severe arthritis in his hands. I asked the nurse about it on the way out. She said "that's why he doesn't do heart surgery anymore".

So the bottom line... be careful who you chose.

IMO the best procedure now, is the one that they do with a laser or radio frequency called veneous closure. Make sure they take before and after photos. Get references. I had a person who he did, but as it turned out, I was his bad day at the office.

If you'd like I'd be happy to review any procedures that you are going to have done. Just send me a comment or mail.

Wish I had had someone else's input before I made this decision.
This experience is why I am so proactive on the thyroid Team.
Its the only way I know to turn this horrible experience I had with this doctor into a Good Thing...
