I've never really been what you'd call an "active" person. But as a girl with a non-functioning thyroid and moving in on 30, I decided that I was overdue for becoming healthy. I've always been a healthy eater, but that isn't enough to keep me at a weight that I'm happy with. (In the past 2 years my weight has fluctuated 28 lbs.) As a 2011 New Years Resolution, I started a running regimen, utilizing Podcasts of Couch to 5K programs. (Currently, I'm listening to the UK's National Health Service ...

As a 2011 New Years Resolution, I started a running regimen, utilizing Podcasts of Couch to 5K programs. (Currently, I'm listening to the UK's National Health Service version--- find it on ITunes...it's free!) When I started, I thought I would keel over after running a full minute. In May I ran my first 5K in 39 minutes. While that's not an impressive time, it's impressive that I ran in a REAL race! I have seen and felt a noticeable increase in strength, endurance, and energy.

My Goals:
Get toned, run a mile (outdoors) without stopping, fit into my size 6 jeans again, improve strength and endurance.

I'd also like to improve my 5K time each time I race.

My Program:
I walk/jog anywhere between 2-4 miles every other day. Sometimes I'm out on the lakefront trail; sometimes I'm on the treadmill. I try to get in at least one group fitness class every week at my gym (Zumba, Kickboxing, Yoga, etc). I've also been utilizing free fitness apps on my phone that focus on toning arms, abs, and glutes.

I live on the northside of Chicago (about 8 blocks from Wrigley Field and a five minute walk to the lake).

I noticed your a teacher so is my daughter, she taught in the Chicago area for a few years and then moved to Edmond Oklahoma she teaches third grade.
