I am 52 yrs old and married 10 yrs (on 3 Jan '14) to my best friend. I also have a 12 yr old daughter. I guess I did everything late in life-my first marriage and my first & only child, all in my 40's.
I'm a vegetarian, Clean Eating South Beacher. It works for me.

I have a heart rate monitor. I absolutely love it! I know exactly how many calories I'm burning. And I have found this chart to be helpful:

ZONE 1--50-60%=Very easy to easy
ZONE 2--60-70%=Easy to somewhat hard
ZONE 3--70-80%=Somewhat hard to hard
ZONE 4--80-90%=Hard to very hard
ZONE 5--90-100%=Maximum, all out effort

To Determine Your Target Heart Rate Zone:
220 - age = maximum heart rate (MHR)
MHR x 65%75% = light to moderate intensity zone
MHR x 75%85% = moderate to heavy intensity zone
(Mine is (171 MHR) 111%-145%)

Zone 1 = 3-7 calories per minute
Zone 2 = 7-12 calories per minute
Zone 3 = 12-17 calories per minute
Zone 4 = 17-20 calories per minute
Zone 5 = 20+ calories per minute

Fat is burned differently in each of the heart zones. You'll burn a different ratio of fat to carbohydrates in each of the heart zones. And once you've crossed over the exercise intensity threshold called the "anaerobic threshold," you are burning no additional fat, though you still burn fat. That's because oxygen has to be present for fat to burn. If there's no additional oxygen present, there's no additional fat burned during this period. However, don't confuse this with meaning that you won't lose body fat in higher zones. Another factor that results from training in these zones is a reduction in body fat, such as an elevated metabolism over time caused by muscular breakdown and/or increased muscle mass, which raises the metabolism.

There are four ways to achieve a caloric deficit:

1. Eat less.
2. Increase your activity.
3. Elevate your basal metabolic rate.
4. All of the above - also known as "Cardio Alone Won't Work".

emoticon Happy Wednesday! emoticon for the foam roller goodie. I've been needing it this week from my workouts which I have been feeling! emoticon emoticon emoticon Stopping by with a poem for you:

Send A Drop Of Kindness
Poet: Julie Hebert, 2012

Send a drop of kindness,
And see a happy face.
A drop of kindness goes real far,
It may even reach outer space.

Send a drop of love,
And feel a loving embrace.
It feels so good to feel like,
You are in the right place.

Send a drop of hope,
But be that shinning star.
Hope is wonderful to have,
But sometimes you can't sit away so far.

Send a drop of faith,
With a single prayer.
And God will show the way,
As faith is always there.

Have an emoticon day! emoticon emoticon

That is a great vacation tip! Thank you. You are right, sometimes treats aren't as exciting as I've built them up to be in my mind.

Thanks for stopping by my blog! I appreciate your encouragement. I started off as a doggie paddler, too! I started in adult beginner swim lessons at the age of 53.
