Oh man! BEATLETOT, have I got some stories about cockroaches! I am so fascinated/repulsed by them. I can totally relate to your horror at having one of those flying giants suddenly appear in your room! I remember once peacefully reading a book, sitting in my bedroom late at night at home in Georgia, then looking up and spying perhaps the biggest cockroach I'd ever seen hanging out near the ceiling. I can't remember how that one ended--it most likely escaped--but I just remember the horrified feeling. UGH.

You're right--cockroaches are just as big here in Japan, though there seems to be a bigger variety of species. The smaller ones gross me out just as much as the big ones. I used to live in a very infested building. We had lots of adventures. The house I'm in now is only twenty years old, so it's rare to see one, thank goodness. But I have to stay on my toes and never go to bed without cleaning up the kitchen, because they are indeed so pervasive here!

Ha ha. How's that for a diet technique? Thinking about cockroaches to reduce one's appetite!

My dear BEATLETOT, thank you so much for your reassuring comment on my blog about having my email hacked. I truly did overreact, I think, and need to work on building up some toughness. I mean, it's not like I injured or killed anyone, right?

And thanks for sharing that story about how you felt responsible for your husband's mishap on the way to work. I've had that kind of feeling, too, of how I might have avoided some unfortunate happening by changing my timing somewhat. I think it's really natural to feel that kind of regret, and it takes some time for that feeling to fade away. BUT!! Oh Lordy--insurance problems?! In the US?! That is one of my definitions of hell on earth. In you and your husband's case, I hope it turns out to be only purgatory. I feel for ya, BEATLETOT!

And your story gave me a glimpse into your sweet relationship with your husband--playing around in the driveway before work. Awww. Imagining that made me smile.
