Beansizzy, I just finished taking a Diabetes class and leaned that a healthy person (one without diabetes) should actually have nearly 75% of their daily diet be good carbs. There are carbs. in fruit and vegetables, which I'm sure you knew, as well as the grains. As long as you look to take in the healthier carbs. and minimize your fats which slow the digestion of carbs. allowing more of them to enter your system as dietary sugars, you will be fine. The way the show it to us is that half your plate should be vegetables, 1/4 protein, 1/4 starch/carbs. Another way to look at it is ... at least for me being at risk for diabetes no more that 4 pts of carbs per meal. 15 grams of carbs. = a point. 2 points for a snack. 3 meals and 1 snack a day. or spread those points out more for a healthier eating habit of eating smaller amounts every 4 to 5 hours.
Any way that is what I learned just recently. If there is an organization in your area that offers free diabetes classes even if you don't have diabetes or are at risk you could lean a lot about healthy diet by taking the class and a lot about preventing your self from becoming at risk. 2336 days ago
