My very first 5K walk and I finished with a smile.

Two weeks into the couch to 5 K program ... and I finished a 5 K run/walk

A year ago I was so full of myself. Running 5ks. Ok, walking and running them. But doing it. Then I got bitten by a dog and had a slow recovery and yeah, maybe a bit of depression thrown in. Well, I got my cholesterol numbers back from the doc with a phone message that I need to come in and get some medication. That got me watching. And it is HARD to see that scale over the roll of fat I call my belly!
6 weeks later of oatmeal for breakfast and really watching lunch and dinner ... and eliminating that nighttime feeding frenzy, I have lost 13 pounds. Had the cholesterol re-check yesterday, waiting for the results. But even if I didn't avoid the medication, I have made some really BIG changes in my whole approach to food.

Stuff below is over a year old... what a difference a year and a nasty dog can make ...

May 14th - turned 60 ... sat on the couch and sulked for about 2 weeks. Felt sorry for myself those same 2 weeks. Then decided to DO something.

Doing the couch to 5K ... and here are my 5K races to date .

June 6 Dow Run/Walk
Walked my first 5 K only because I had it in my head that I could walk forever if I just kept at it long enough.

July 9 6th Annual Huckleberry Hustle 5k Run
Jogged/walked a 5 K in under 44:28 minutes. I was number 4 in my age group ... (did I mention there were 4 runners in my age group ! But I finished # 176 out of 193 runners. AND I finished SMILING.

Sept 1... thinking of skipping the 5K scheduled for this weekend because my training has gone from 3x a week to barely once. Not smiling so much right now.

Sept 7 ... did the Labor Day 5K run at Chippewa Nature Center and took FIRST place in my age group. Actually I was the only runner in my age group and at 60, the oldest female in the race! Time just under 45 minutes. Got a medal and everything!
44:17.88 rank # 147 out of 221, but that includes the walkers.

Nov 13. Attacked by a German Shepherd, dragged to the ground, thigh was severely bitten. So much for any exercise.
