Now with kung-fu grip!

Several years ago, I weighed somewhere around 230 lbs., probably more. I was in denial, so I wasn't exactly weighing myself at the time. Sometime in September of 2003, something in me snapped, and I decided it was time to stop treating myself like crap. I cleaned up my diet, and I found wushu (kung fu) just a month or two later.

Since then, I've lost over 50 lbs. and I've kept it off for over 2 years! I'm in better shape than I've ever been before, and I've found what I hope will ...

Since then, I've lost over 50 lbs. and I've kept it off for over 2 years! I'm in better shape than I've ever been before, and I've found what I hope will be a lifelong practice in the martial arts. I'll also be getting certified as a personal trainer, as soon as I can afford to do so! :D

I'm working with an LCSW on treatment for generalized anxiety disorder, and I feel this is the big wall between me and my goal weight. It's taken me a while, but I'm reaching a happier place where I don't obsess over or fear food, so I'm really looking to keep it that way.

Now, I'm basically here to lose that last bit of extra squishy. I've been parked in the 170s for a couple of years, but after a lot of emotional flailing, I finally feel ready to make that final run for 155. :) Wish me luck!

My Goals:
My primary goal is to improve my martial arts skill. I've been doing martial arts for over 5 years, and I feel that my weight is limiting me.

I would also like to be "in shape," and fit-looking, because I've been overweight for my entire life.

My Program:
I'm *always* training wushu 3 days a week. I'm a little obsessed! ;)

I'm currently also doing 20-40 minutes of circuit training (thank you Jillian Michaels) 5 days a week.

I kind of hate steady-state cardio, but I've started running again, doing about 3 miles 2x/week. I may scale it up or back depending on how my joints take it. :)

Personal Information:
I have a day job, a photography venture on the side, and in the future, I'm looking to trade day job hours for work as a personal trainer!

I am so glad that Martial arts help get you to where you are now. I've been training since I was 6 years old and I know so many who have benefited from it (myself included). Keep up the awesome work!
