I am a 54 year old grandmother of the most beautiful (I know... they all say that) little boy and baby girl given to me by my favorite daughter (ok, she's my only child). I work full time as a Developmental Disabilities Program Specialist 1 (in plain language...I am the Director of the Incident Management Unit) at an institution for the developmentally disabled in New York State.

AUGUST 1, 2017: Once again, attempting to get myself back on track to being healthy. Today, I was named "Motivator of the Day". I don't feel like that was deserved as I haven't been motivated myself. I am thankful, nonetheless.

JUNE 23, 2015: Well, again I am trying. Don't know why it is so hard. Went to my doctor on the 16th to find that I had gained 102 pounds in the past 6 years, have high blood pressure, high cholesterol and am pre-diabetic. Came home on medication and disgusted with myself. Difference this time is I started charting my food the next day and have stuck with it this past week. Yesterday, I started exercising again. I am more motivated to stay on track this time and am hopeful that I will beat this demon and get back to being healthy and feeling better.

JANUARY 3, 2015 and I have done nothing that I need to do where my health and weight are concerned. I know what I must do but it is easier said than done. I find I am talking the talk but not walking the walk, so to speak. Actually, pretty disappointed with myself at this point....

I AM BACK! It is June 9, 2013 and so many things have changed in my life. I unfortunately got too far away from what I needed to do and have gained almost all of the weight that I lost back. So I have returned to what I know works and will once again follow the right path to success. This time, I have a different frame of mind and believe that I will conquer this demon. I was married on April 27, 2013 to a fantastic man who, even though he loves me as I am, understands and supports me in whatever I endeavor to do....this included. I am healthy (other than the weight) and able to get back on track. I found a Curves near to my new home and will join it as soon as I get back from my honeymoon at the end of this month (not an excuse.....just the right time for me to do it and stick with it). I am excited once again and it has been a LONG time! UPDATE: December 24, 2013 - I did join the Curves in July but have not gone. Right after joining, my mother was diagnosed with Stage 3 Colo-Rectal Cancer and I have been running full steam with that. She recently had surgery after round 1 with radiation/chemo and will start round 2 of chemo in January 2014....hopefully, I will be able to get going on myself at the same time. I did start tracking my food today....STEP 1!

So tired of being FAT. So tired of hating what I see in the mirror. Just plain TIRED! Gonna change that right now!

My Goals:
I started trying to lose weight at the end of May 2007. My motivation to do so was because my fasting blood sugar was high (and I don't have diabetes). My goal was to lose 100 pounds and I weighed 260 pounds at that time.

Maintenance Goal: Tone up the jiggly stuff!

My Program:
My plan is as follows:

I watch EVERYTHING that goes into my mouth. Even though I don't follow the meal plans here, I do log in everything on my Nutrition Tracker.

I exercise at least 3 times a week. I use my Recumbent Bicycle and WiiFit game. I log everything into the Fitness Tracker.

I carry my day's food with me to work.

I drink at least 8 cups of water a day.

I eat at least 8 servings of fruit and vegetables a day.

I tell myself that I AM WORTH IT!

Personal Information:
I live in New York State.

I am a veteran of the US Army (1980-1984).

I am an Officer at the Post the American Legion and am a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. This has been my life's passion for the past 25 years (other than my daughter and family).

Other Information:
I believe that no matter what, we need to support our troops in their mission, even if we don't agree with it. They need to know that they have our love and support.

Thank you everyone. I sure don't feel like I'm much of a motivator lately. Actually haven't really been motivated much myself. Just being named the Motivator of the Day did boost me and I'm hoping to continue on that path.

The MOTIVATOR OF THE DAY. What an honor.

I read through your description, and have to say that I'll be a Sparker 10 yrs in October and I'm now finally at the lowest weight I've been all these years, as since April I've dropped 40# so I'm now 145#. I haven't been this size for over 30 yrs, but it is all because I FINALLY found a doctor who would listen to me and he put me on Metformin, Armour Thyroid, and Bydureon (a weekly shot) so I have had NO hunger. My Blood sugar was 115 and the last doctor said "At your age you can't expect to lose weight since you have Metabolic Syndrome.) He went on to say 115 isn't diabetes as it starts at 126 and you therefore have no need of Metformin.
Well, this doctor who is an endocrinologist had me read the literature in the Metformin package which said "If you might become a Type 2 diabetic, then you can take this medicine." He said "NO, you don't have diabetes, but you are close enough." I'm thrilled. He gave me Bontril which is an appetite suppressant and I only took it a couple of times.
But, then on June 10th I fell and broke my femur, so I now have a titanium rod with screws in my leg so I spent 34 days in rehab and I still am going to have more home-health rehab so I can walk with a cane and build up my leg muscles. It has helped me to want to get physically fit as I had SO much pain.
Do see a doctor who will help you. Consider gastric sleeve surgery if you must, but my advice is to get off the sugar, as it is so addictive.
