A Healthy New Me

In March 2013, I had gotten sick of being unhealthy. I was unenergetic, stressed, and felt...well...fat. I decided to do something about it, so I joined Sparkpeople. My goal, instead of getting "skinny" was to become healthier and feel better.

Since then, I've come a long way! I have tons more energy, feel less stressed, and truly appreciate my body. I've found the joy of making creative and healthy meals, which has really helped me stay on track.

I've been maintaining since June 2014. I'm quite happy with the way my body now looks and feels, so my goal now is to learn how to maintain and eat intuitively.

My Goals:
Maintain a weight between 137 and 143, with my goal weight being 140.

Trust myself when I feel that I can let go of certain "rules" that I created while losing weight.

Track all food at least 5 days a week.

Relax and enjoy myself when in social eating situations. At the same time, don't overeat to the point I am no longer enjoying my food or the way my body feels.

My Program:
I take a bootcamp class on Mondays and Fridays that mixes weight training and cardio. I also do "at-home bootcamp" on Wednesdays. Each of these are about an hour long.

Tuesdays and Thursdays are my recovery days. I do cardio exercises for about 40 minutes. I do a few of Jessica Smith's walking workouts, as well as some kickboxing and HIIT.

Saturdays are my rest days. I take a gentle yoga class to help stretch my body and clear my mind.

Sundays are a bit more intense cardio days, with about 50 minutes of exercise. I'm currently doing a HIIT workout and a Jessica Smith walk on Sundays.

Personal Information:
I'm from Michigan, and I have been married since December 2010. We have a sweet doggie named Winter who is the light of my life. My husband and I are currently trying to start a family!

I'm so glad you understand too about the different "normals" I belonged to the overweight one most of my life too! So it's odd to be in a different one right now!

Yes I'm already feeling better! I'm so glad I looked into them, I was looking into different things like Iron, B's, D etc. and saw an article on grape seed extract and was like OH HMMM!!!

LOL You know I didn't really start being creative with foods till this journey, before then I was a strict recipe follower too. They are always the safe bet to follow! It's just that since I am usually only cooking for 1 during the day and 2 when my hubby's home I usually have to modify anyway and then getting healthier I've found you can cut back on certain things and get away with it with no detriment to the flavor. And I'll take little things from certain recipes and keep them and mix them up with other things. Sometimes it's not a hit but other times it's like WOW making that again! LOL It's trail and error and it's kinda like an art, I'm seeing it more as a creative process now than I ever have before. It's scary to take the risks at first but once they start paying off it helps you take more later! Start small by trying to think what else might go good with such and such or if you taste something new try and think of what would go good with it.
Last night we used a recipe I found on pinterest for honey-lime salmon that was ok. There are several different recipes with honey-lime and I'm going to try a different way next time or maybe go with the idea of honey-lime combo and just make up my own version inspired by all the different ideas I saw.
Anyway!!! My point is start out with small changes and smaller trials and start gaining experience to try more things. The nice thing about using your own creativity is that it's custom to your tastes so you can really make something that you love that way!

You know what yesterday after reading your comment I told my hubby about it and thought maybe I should check my blood pressure too. And sure enough it was on the low side for me. It wasn't under normal recommended still but it was about 10 lower than what I typically see now. So I did some research and thought back to the times I had those symptoms when they usually happen and it tends to be after I've been walking for a while. I think that maybe the blood was pooling in my legs when walking and causing my blood pressure to drop a little. Anyway one of the recommended things was compression sleeves and it just so happens that we have some from hubby's surgery a few years ago so I put them on and after a bit I started to feel better took my blood pressure again and it was back to normal. I think I might have been mistaking the low blood pressure for low blood sugar but it could have been both. If it happens again I'll check again as well. At least now I know to watch for it and see what's happening! Thank you so much!

OH and oddly enough I didn't really get sore from all those steps! My major muscles are fit enough now I guess!!! LOL Where I did get sore was around my hips those stabilizer muscles that don't get called on as often! It would be nice to be able to hike more to keep those muscles stronger too. Maybe I'll start incorporating more stabilizing workout things.

emoticon Ya I'm not sure that it will work either I will give it a couple days but 500 is really hard to keep no matter what I do it seems. And that's okay it's a good learning experience. I know I'm really close to the level off spot and that is a good sign of it too. I think after a couple days I'll decide what I want to do next.
