My name is Victoria. I'm 21, and I am currently 235 pounds. I'm trying to take weight loss in baby steps- My current goal is to walk half an hour without pause.

I signed up back in 2010. Back then I was only 170 pounds. Still over weight for my height, but not so much so that I took getting into shape seriously.

Now I'm back, and I want to do it right.

Hello and Welcome!
You mention that your legs bother you so I would suggest maybe trying the chair exercise videos here on SP.

As you build up strength you can add other exercises.
Just take it one day/ one step at a time.

You can do it!

Stop, do not pass go, do not collect $200. Go see your doctor today!

Edema (swelling) can be a sign that your heart / lungs are not keeping up with the excess weight in your body. The underlying conditions can be treated but you must get to the doctor without delay.

Get clearance from your doc, then start a fitness program. You must also track your calories and maintain a daily deficit in order to lose weight.

I sure wish you the best of luck on your journey! Talk with your doctor and make a note to him/her you are greatly concerned for yourself...they will listen and help and if they don't, get another opinion!!! Do you have a good support system (just in case of internet crashing again)??? That is one thing that will make this journey far easier for you. Sure you can go at it alone, but when people work together...amazing things happen!
Have you met with a personal trainer or fitness/nutrition consultant at your gym? They usually have them for free or for little cost and they are great resourceful people that can help get you off on the right foot (no pun intended)...being a nurse, I greatly agree about the salt intake...be mindful! When you use your spark nutrition...you can set what nutrients you track and this is very helpful. I learned alot about my diet like this. When you can, elevate your legs to help reduce swelling. Maybe even ask your doctor if "ted hose" (compression stocking) would be beneficial to you. Sparkpeople is a great place to make buddies and get loads of support. You learn new things and can change old habits. You are the key player in your success, so give it your all!!! WE ALL BELIEVE IN YOU! Hope you have a great week, keep your head high.
