I'm 62, married for 45 years, 3 children, 7 grandchildren. I just retired in Dec. 2010. I've been with SP since July, 2011. I lost 8.5 lbs. back then. Since then we had a house fire (May, 2012) and I find myself starting all over...on so many levels. Ironic that through all I've had to deal with lately that I turn back to SP for my salvation? I love this site and the motivation and support I get from everyone. I lost my determination after the fire, but today I find myself ready to ...

Give me strength.

My Goals:
I would like to lose 5lbs. a month. Would like to be down20 more lbs. by Christmas. I want to reach my goal weight by my next anniversary in July 2012.

My Program:
I'm following my meal plans very closely. I'm walking 30 minutes every day. August 1st I will add 30 minutes of stationery walking to a dvd.

Personal Information:
I live in Kansas, my name is Brenda. We married young and had three children. We lost our oldest son in a drowning accident 13 years ago and I just gave up. He left three small children behind. Every July is difficult for me.

Other Information:
I've been a cake decorator for 35 years, trying to retire. For the past 13 years, I've been a nail tech and do nails out of my home. My hobbies are gardening and cooking (I love to try new recipes).

Oh my- you have been through a LOT! Don't be so hard on yourself. I can't imagine how awful it would be to lose your home, let alone your son. It's great you were able to see your grandson graduate in the midst of all this- I know many of us appreciate what he's doing and the sacrifices the whole family has to make.

I think you're absolutely right- you do have to grieve after your losses, and that's not only okay- it's healthy. If you want to start up again I would recommend setting one or two smaller goals for yourself- think back to fast breaks- be it to eat one or two meals at the same time everyday, have an additional serving of veggies every day, walk for ten minutes, etc. Once you can incorporate small changes into your life you can set new goals for yourself.

I hope you have a good support system to help you get through this- maybe look for some sparkteams as well to keep you motivated. If you ever want to talk, feel free to message me.

Your dark cloud will dissipate, you will get through this, and you can lead a healthier lifestyle. Good luck with everything!
