40 and FabUlous!!!

I'm 40 years old, have been overweight for almost 20 yrs and this is my year to lose the weight! I have a busy family and my goal is not only to get myself healthy but my family as well. I hope to become more active and work on making healthier choices!

My Goals:

My main goal is to lose 60 lbs but I am doing in 10 lb increments as well as working toward 30 minutes of exercise every 2nd day. Update! Now I am stiving for 30 minutes of exercise Monday to Friday! New update as of February 14th I am up to 40 + minutes of exercise - strength training and cardio 5 times a week! Yeah! Little steps and then bigger steps!

My Program:
Most imp0ortantly, I am not beating myself up when I fall off the track! And I have a vision of what I look like at my goal weight! Which is a big step for me! I also made a vision board which I find reminds me of my goals! I joined a local TOPS chapter for support and I am working on my goals of eating healthier, getting enough rest and exercising Monday to Friday and getting the family more active. Right now I am using a combination of things, ie Wii Fit, Yoga, Elliptical trainer and Prevention exercise videos and Pilates. I am doing 2 wks of one thing and then switching to something else so I don't get bored! Which can be another challenge for me. And where food is concerned...'if it's not in the house, I can't eat it'!

My name is Tina and I would describe myself as a people person with a love for my family, travel, languages and gardening. I have lived in China, Africa and all over Canada. Someday I would love to travel again! I also love quotes! I have quotes posted all over my house...I think for most occasions in life, there is a great quote! :)

I am loving the 'Biggest Loser' 6 week Boot Camp Exercise dvd! I did 40 minutes this morning and it had me moving and feeling like 'Yeah! I am doing busting my butt now!' I am feeling really good despite the various aches and associated soreness. I have even moved up to the 10 lb dumbells! Wahoo! emoticon

I am down to 308 now from 315 when I started.


Hope everything is going good for you.

Hint when making persian rice with lentils

Use the whole red or green lentil as the little orange halved ones go mushy!


I make one large meal a week and portion it in containers for the week or so.

Keeping it more than a week in the freezer just ends up having a lot of frost on the food

Yeah persian rice with fried onions, fried julian carrots (you can find them at super store sometimes), I also includes some raisians and some tender cooked red or green lentils.

It is very tasty

It has only been 2 days and a bit and I lost about 4 pounds!

Tacking my calories is really helping me a lot and it reienforces increases freah and cooed vegies more promenantly in my diet!

Now when the job comes through I will be able to afford more freash vegies a couple of times a week!

Hi! My goal is to lose 60 lbs first, then to drop 40 more! Ideally I would like to get down to at least a size 12 with a healthy BMI! I have arthritis and a degenerative spine so losing weight will be of great help to my health! One of the reasons I don't sleep well either! I had a bad fall while carrying my son as an infant and I have ruptured discs in my back and neck as a result!
However I am determined not to get off track or feel depressed or overwhelmed if I slip from time to time! I am feeling really good and excited about Sparkpeople!
