    I was just reading the article your posted on my profile, and it makes so much sense to me. I had been considering doing south beach again, but I just didn't want to try another super constricted way of eating that has never had long term success for me before. This week I decided that I need to go off sugar for good, and limit breads and pastas to whole wheat/grains and in limited quantity. I made it three days on no sweets and then caved last night and bought a ton of chocolate truffles at walgreens as well as candy bars 'on sale'. I came home and binged some, only to find my heart racing REALLY freakishly fast and it really scared me.
    I have realized that the only long term solution for me, without resorting to diet pills, is doing a healthy carb, only natural sugar way of eating. It just makes so much sense to me, and this article you showed me just seals it for me. The first two weeks of south beach are meant to cleanse your body of sugar and rid your body of the intense craving cycles it is in from carb binging all the time. Then you get the whole grains and fruits back for phase two, which makes it much more doable. This I think is the only option for me, as I just cannot limit myself to portions of sweets. They are like a drug in my system, and I have no control over them. All I had was a few bites of my son's gingerbread man cookie yesterday and that was enough sugar to get the cycle started again, thus the binge last night. I sent the rest of the sweets with Jayme to work to get them out of the house.
    So I am going to do the south beach lifestyle, today being day one. I have very little options in my house to eat and probably won't be able to get out until tomorrow to shop b/c of weather, but I can survive on beans and eggs til then. I weighed in at 188.2 today. Yup. gaining again! No surprise to me, really. I'm not gonna to into a tailspin like before, just start something and stick to it. You can lose 8-14 lbs these first two weeks on the plan, so that should be enough to hopefully get me back in the 170's and motivated to keep going. I"m also going to start exercising regularly again, even if for only 20-30 minutes, I want to do something almost everyday. I'm not 'trying' or 'considering' doing this, I'm DOING IT. I can't play around with my health any longer.
    Anyways, thanks for sending me that article! I hope your moving process is going smoothly and that you have a safe, fun, and inspiring time in the US before you head on home to the UK. Can't wait to hear how it goes!
    I have to admit as a side note that I looked up a friend on facebook I had ended things with last may, because she was so unsupportive of me among other reasons, and she has lost like 40 lbs and is doing south beach. She is the one that introduced me to this plan and made it sound exciting and doable. She told me she would only be happy for me and supportive after I had kept the weight off for a long period of time without the use of diet pills. Some friend. I know i don't need to 'prove her wrong', but I definitely don't want to prove her right. I can only imagine her smug face if I ran back into her having gained the weight back and she having lost all of hers LOL.

    Good for you for starting back fresh! I haven't done my dvd's in weeks, the longest stretch EVER and have just been getting in several 45 min walks per week. I think that article really hit home for me about intense exercise LOL. But I really miss the way it makes me feel! I have been doing a new low carb diet plan for about a week now and have lost a few pounds. I have decided once and for all that I need to stay off white bread and pasta and as little sugar as possible for life. We'll see how it goes! Their is an aweful lot of low carb stuff that is really good. I'm not being anal about counting carbs or anything just staying away from the three things I listed. What do you think of sparkpeople?
